This is what Kelly Clarkson is quoted as saying in my local paper about being a mother:

"My point of view is that I shouldn't be a mother at all, because I'd be horrible," she says. "I'm not willing to be that selfless."

Yay Kelly! If motherhood isn't for you, stick to your guns and don't give in to the peer pressure.
You go girl!

I'm not a huge fan of hers, but I do like "Since You Been Gone". Also, given this thread, "Miss Independent" seems to sum her up. Go, Kelly!

My favorites are "Miss Independent" and "Breakaway". It's nice to see a young woman who can be a good role model for kids.

Thank you to Kelly for being brave enough to state her true feelings and helping to get the message out that having children is not for everyone. If her story only gets even ONE person to think about their choices in life, then she has helped a great deal.

I knew I liked Kelly for more than just her music. She was the only one we saw being the American Idol from that first season and I'm happy she's had so much success. That last album of hers was so good too. smile I'm happy that we might be kindred spirits of sorts, and it's encouraging to hear more and more celebrities speak their true feelings on the subject of children.

Image Kelly Clarkson inspiring me to make my first post on this particular forum.

I first want to say that I found it interesting/frustrating the the statement in that article introducing the quote read to the effect that motherhood was not in the cards for Kelly - at least not yet! Followed by her statement being absolutely clear of her position, sans any indication her mind was changing!

I know this forum is Married No Kids. I'm not married, but I consider myself close. I've had a rough day because my boyfriend called me at work (as we do everyday) and told me how a coworker who just had a child brought it in and he was able to hold it for a half hour.

I really didn't react much and, in fact, stated "That kind of thing just doesn't excite me."

My boyfriend knows I'm not crazy about children. I'm terrified of what a pregnancy will do to me physically and emotionally. I'm still really struggling with whether I want to committ to not having children, but I know that's a discussion that has to happen because both he and I deserve that consideration.

We'll be attending my nephew's 3rd birthday party this weekend and I really want to have a sit-down with my mom to ask her why she had children. I need to know if the women in my life ever even considered it their choice.

Thanks for listening. I'm taking heart and learning a lot from all of you.

You mean, the opposite of selfish ?
