Ugh, slightly off topic but I had to share. I also have a slight tummy pooch, not real big really, but enough to be self-conscious about it at times. The perils of the "newlywed nine".
Anyway. I thought the new trend to longer, looser tops, some of them with high waists, was great. Very comfy, and conceals.
But I've been asked *three times* when wearing one if I was PG. Unbelieveably rude!!

I like those tops too, but every time I try one on, it looks like a maternity top on me! Not a look I'm going for, so I haven't bought any yet though they are very comfy!

Oh no! I just got one, and haven't worn it yet. I was hoping that drapey fabric look would fool people, and they'd think, "Oh, I can't tell what's under there. It must be just skin and bones." But now I'm realizing it might give the wrong idea. Or (shoulda thought of this first) they'll look at my arms and realize I'm not skin-and-bones. Darn.

As for those "maternity look" tops, I saw an old friend wearing one and she looked pregnant, but to be on the safe side, I just asked her if she had any kids, hoping she would say "just this one on the way" ... but she actually said NOPE! Gosh was I glad I didnt assume anything

I'm guessing the newlywed nine is like the freshman 15 (pounds gained due to excessive late night pizzas). I've never heard of the NN, but that cracked me up. It is easier (for me at least) to keep my weight down when I don't have a boyfriend or husband. Men can eat so much more and can be a bad influence (Ben and Jerry's again!). But I think a lot women diet seriously before their wedding, so maybe the "nine" is just your body equalizing itself back to its regular weight.

Yep, you're right on both counts. Many people (both genders) gain some weight after the wedding- something to do with less stress and more happiness perhaps? I lost about 6 lb for the wedding, but they found me again and brought a couple friends. I'm slowly losing them again... As for the high waisted tops.... ln, you sure were more tactful than the ladies who've asked me about it! Heh. I'm not going to stop wearing them, but I'm going to have to come up with a canned response to The Question. Hmmm...

I always had a slight belly bulge and probably looked in the early stages of pregnancy if I wore the right clothes, but fortunately, nobody has ever asked me! I've lost a lot of weight recently (22 pounds), but the bulge is still just barely there, even though I work my abs like crazy. I think the only time I've been mistaken for pregnant was on my birthday last year, when I wore a gauzy, empire waist top...it was really really hot, and the top was comfortable. And my husband took me out to eat at a restaurant we've been to several times, and the waiter made a huge huge fuss over me and kept looking down at my belly. Needless to say, the top went into the Salvation Army bin the very next day.

I have one of the tunic-style tops - it's a really cute tank top from a couple of years ago when they were first coming back into style. It is made of a great light fabric and it is made so that I don't even have to wear a bra, a great blessing on a hot day. However, I am very into working out and as a result, I am slender - those types of tops, though pretty and comfortable, make me look like I am preggers too....don't want to give that impression to people - don't want to get their hopes up that we'll be joining the cult of parenthood.

Well I am just kind of fat so it looks dumb on me. I make dresses, and one of the dresses I made had an empire waist - looked cute on the model on the pattern, not so much on me. Although, everyone at work thinks it's just so darling. I love the material, wish I hadn't wasted it. No more empire waists for me!
