Does anyone know of some natural things that work for fleas for cats. I don't like using frontline, etc but this year my 2 cats have fleas and they haven't had them before. I give them brewers yeast and got a natural herbal flea powder but wondered if there's something else to try.

Thanks

Yes, Garlic and Brewer's yeast on a regular basis helps. The fleas are particularly miserable in FL this year. Frontline is not lasting a month and I really don't want to use it more often. In the past, one application has lasted as long as 2-3 months. Since my dog is flea bite allergic, her groomer advized bathing her in DAWN dishwasher detergent between groomings. Also, BORAX laundry soap sprinkled on carpets, furniture and along doorways kills fleas, the boric acid eats up their feet, hehehe (it will also help with ants, roaches, etc.-I sprinkle it around the edges of my porch and on window sills also. You leave it there for several hours and then vacuum or sweep it away. It won't hurt your animals after you have done that. Another thing that works is Avon's Skin So Soft. It comes in a spray which I spray on a brush and then brush the cats. They won't let me spray them but they loved to be combed and brushed. The smell repels both fleas and mosquitos.
Apple Cider Vinegar is another natural method to use in water or as a spray. Just add a few drops to drinking water. It will repel fleas and stop itching, too.

Thanks so much for the info. I have been putting apple cider vinegar into the dogs and cats drinking water for about a month so hope that is helping.

I also got some brewers yeast flakes and mix it into their food. I know these remedies take a while to work.

Thanks for the borax idea. I heard on an organic garden show that they can do borax treatment for termites too now. They actually treat the inner walls of new homes as they build them and they won't ever get termites.

I use Avon's SSS for myself so will also get some spray for the animals.

thanks again.

Wanted to give an update. The brewers yeast and apple cider vinegar seems to be working! The commercial flea treatment ran out 2 weeks ago and I haven't had to reapply.

Here is another two well known narural Flea recipes.

Recipe - 1
Fennel flea powder
Mix and grind 1 cup each of rue, wormwood,
rosemary, fennel, and peppermint. When the herbs
have been ground to a powder, dust the animal with
the herbal mixture, working it in as you go.

Recipe-2
Pennyroyal Flea Powder
Mix together 2 tablespoons each of powdered
wormwood and rosemary. Add 4 tablespoons of
powdered pennyroyal, and 2 teaspoons of cayenne
pepper. Use as often as you would a commercial flea
powder. Caution: Do not get this into the animal's
eyes.

I thought garlic helped with fleas. My mom used to give it to our dog when I was a kid and she never got fleas

I've read that giving garlic to dogs and especially cats, is not recommended.

I did put the cider vinegar into the dog and cat's water and give them all brewers yeast daily and no fleas this summer! We live in TX too where it has been hot and humiD.

I love apple cider vinegar for so many things.
