this morning i'm grateful that my cat's behavior has improved so much in the 6 months he has been here. i took him "off the hands" of some people who loved cats (they had rescued 10) but found him to be a problem... in particular, he was very aggressive. In the first two months i received many serious bites (he'd bite hard, but worse lock on with his teeth and claws as well and it'd take some doing to pry him off), but i've worked with him carefully and steadily these months and he's learned "the rules" and no longer bites like that. And we've found several games we can play together, and though he's not a cuddly lap cat yet, he is affectionate towards me, and he's starting to come around to cuddling. He has turned into a good companion who only nips lightly on occassion, and that is getting less and less as he learns to trust me more and learn to be gentle.

I'm grateful because though it takes a lot of work, it's well worth it to rehabilitate a rescue animal, even one who's had problems, or maybe particularly one who's had problems. The satisfaction and bond you get in the end, i think, is better. I almost gave up on Fisher that first month! So to see him respond so well makes me grateful indeed.

thank you.

Today a friend of mine, her mother and i went to a Strawberry Festival. It was sponsored by a Rotary group to raise funds for children's charities... such as wiping out iodine deficiency world wide.

There were quite a few hundred people there. Two of my other friends were volunteering at the festival, one of them was grilling the hamburgers and the other was selling the chocolate covered strawberries she had made. There was also the main feature... strawberry shortcake. They served huge plates of the stuff... two shortcakes, two scoops of ice cream, and ladles of fresh strawberry sauce. There was live music and the "balloon man" came by our table and made me a rocking horse out of 3 long baloons. laugh He must have thought i was 6. I can see where people might get confused. laugh

Today I am grateful for the wonderful feel of deep breathing... The fresh air as it absolutely fills my lungs chocablock, and then whooshes out and the process starts all over again... Countless times we breathe in, and breathe out, and are never, but never aware of how such a fundamentally vital and reflexive unconscious action, keeps us alive - !!
