New to the forums and just wondering about these dreams I have been having, for years. They are pretty much all the same. I feel a presence, either in the same room, standing over me, in the bed with me. It is always trying to grab me and pull at me. I hear its voice and feel its touch or just its presence. Sometimes I have felt it like breathing. I have felt it move the covers back and lie next to me. It has grabbed my arm so hard that I felt actual pain. It happens when I am alone or with my husband. I am always trying to make myself wake up from the dream. I know I am in the dream and that if I can wake up it will go away. I usually try calling out for help, but always I am unable to speak and get out the words. My husbanad has heard me moaning and woke me up or I do just finally come out on my own. Anyway, they are very real, very scary and even after I wake up I am afraid. I even fell fear during the day sometimes if I have just recently had one of the dreams. Any advice....

wanttalk, do you recall at what age you started having these particular dreams? Was there any special 'event' which preceeded the first one?

Also, do they follow after any particular experience during the day - eg: could they be triggered by something in particular that happens prior to each dream experience?

Patience.

Oh I feel sorry for you, that is so scary. Patience asks good questions. I have wild dreams, I fly and I can pick where to, and yes it totally freaked me out for years. But I did a lot of research and learned that I have a gift, so to speak. Are you absolutely positive you are asleep?

Sometimes I think that I am awake, or at least I thought I was, but I seem to have to be woke up in order for the dream to end..

Both of my aduly daughters have had this type of experience thrpoghout their life. I have had it happen to me only once. I have done a lot of research on it. It is called sleep parallisis. I am not sure what causes it but I know it is horrible.
I saw Sylvia Brown on Montell and she was talking to a ladt who had the same problem. Sylvia told her that when she{the lady} was dreaming that her spirit was out of her body visiting other places. When her spirit was ready to come back to her body it was having trouble. The figure she saw and felt was her self.
Her body was keeping her from reentering her body. I don't know if I agree with that completly but that is what she said. Hope this helps.

You know, what lindamunchkin says sounds like a real possibility to me. I have had sleep paralysis twice. And I do the astral traveling thing as well, but have never had the combination, but maybe it was? Once my first husband was having a diabetic reaction, and I knew it. But I couldn't do anything about it, my body literally could not would not move. It took up to two hours or so when I finally could move (dozing in and out), and at that time was able to help, although he ended up in the hospital, freaky. At the time I kind of chalked it up to being exhausted, we were in the process of moving.

If you do astral travel you can somewhat control it. I know it did scare me, and I would tell myself "I'm not going anywhere tonight." And it worked. And if you find yourself "taking off" so to speak, you can direct it, but be careful. There's a lot of info on the net, google and you will be amazed what is.

I hate to ask, but is there any possibility that something like you experience in your dreams did happen to you when you were smaller? It might make sense that a small girl who had someone climb into bed with her and while maybe not actually molest her, might have scared her very badly. That kind of stuff can stay with us for a long, long time and may only surface again when your defences are down and you are in a safe place- your own bed, sometimes with a person you do feel safe with. Next time, if you dream this dream, you might consider telling that "person" they have no right to be in your room or in your bed and to leave you alone. When I have felt vulnerable before sleep, I have often woven a bright white light dome over my bed with me in it in my mind's eye. It truly seems to ward off the "uglies" whether in our imagination/subconscious or otherwise. Hugs to you.

Hi Wanttalk,

I have had similar issues to yours. I agree with pretty much all the other posts...these things can be a combination of issues...astral travel, memories, or even a physical problem.

I'm doing my next column on sleep paralysis and something known as 'The Sensed Presence'. Look for it on Wednesday, I think it may help some--if it doesn't alleviate the problem, it might at least help you understand it.

Lux,
