This is completely asinine. It's unhealthy, unnatural and selfish.
I'm 35, and at the point where I wouldn't have kids b/c the risk factor goes up significantly at 35. (I don't want one anyway, though, but you KNOW that.)
But 60! Come on! This is someone that can't deal with the fact that she is aging. I don't have the energy at 35 to chase a small person around. You can't tell me that a woman in her 60s is going to have the stamina to care for not one, but two, little ones.
She said she wants to set a precedent that older people can have kids. But why? Because older women don't have anything else to do?
People need to get over their uteruses and use their imaginations - there's a whole world out there.

I'm 37 and I feel like there is even some amount of irresponsibility in me having a child because I'm not five years younger. Even a small increase in the chance of problems makes me think twice. I always thought, someday in the future I'd have kids, but now that I'm here, I keep thinking, well, if I didn't want it bad enough earlier in my life when my body was in my prime to be doing that, then why do it now when it's even riskier? How come this woman doesn't worry about that???

Maybe she's counting on her grown children to help her. Ugh! If I were one of those grown children, I'd change my phone number and "forget" to tell Mom!

I read that her 29 yr. old daughter was interviewed and was very clear that she was NOT happy about it.

I'm sure she's not. If my 61 year old mother decided to have a baby or two, (she wouldn't) I'd have no problem telling her that I would NOT be the "Godparent" to her babies and would not be available to step in if she could not for any reason raise them to adulthood. Harsh maybe, but having the babies was not the 29 year old daughter's decision, it was her mother's. She shouldn't have to be the "backup" unless she absolutely wants to.

No, no, Hope. I AM the selfish one because I'm over 40 and haven't run to my nearest fertility clinic to be impregnated with quintuplets! How DARE I not take advantage of this amazing technology in the name of womankind! Wasn't that one of her reasons - to reduce the "stigma" of older mothers? Yeah right. And never mind those pesky kids who result from it, or my ability to care for them until they are adults, or the toll it will take on me physically/mentally/financially. Bad Tbunny, bad - selfishly wanting my own quiet little life all to myself! *giggle* I'm just getting caught up here. I've had family visiting. Thanks for the laugh.

Haha, if grandma is allowed to get pregnant, I should be allowed to get my tubal. It's all about being able to make your own choice, responsible or not.

Now, this is what you call selfish. My sister told me that this "miracle mom" has a 29 y/o daughter that did NOT approve of this. I wonder did the "miracle mom" stop and think how fair this is to the kids? She is not going to live forever and really her life expectancy is almost up.....I certainly wouldn't want to enter my old senior years as a new mommy!! Plus, did she stop and think that if she were to die within the next 15-20 years, she'd be leaving two very young children. Plus, what if she and her husband start to get sick....this would leave a "burden" for her daughter to deal with if she and her husband were incapacitated. At her age, there are just too many real risk that should have been have been considered and those dr's seem to be a bit questionable to me. I know, they couldn't stop her legally but this just doesn't seem to be fair to those babies.

I agree, it should be regulated somehow, but how? Government is very reluctant to interfere with the reproductive rights of citizens. Cindy
True, as long as what you want to do with those rights is *have* children. Government and doctors are rather more likely to interfere with those rights if you *don't* want to have kids (or more kids than you currently have). Witness the trouble some of our members have had in getting their tubals, not to mention controversies about birth control and abortion...
