Thanks for the great article. He makes some excellent points.

This is refreshing, although I had to snicker when he mentioned Sheryl Crow as an example of a childfree person, since she just adopted a kid.

It's so nice that he pointed out the myth in assuming that childfree people are selfish. That is the one point people are always bringing up to me that really ticks me off. I give my time to help other people, so I don't know why people accuse me of being selfish...just ignorance, I guess.

He mentions a lot of what we've said here. But, I think people can stomach it better if it comes from an actual parent.

My husband had a conversation with an old friend that he rarely sees. The friend does have kids, who we've never met (they live far away). My DH was explaining a little about what we've been going through as we tried to have kids, and then stopped due to our mixed feelings.

His friend said, "There are no rational reasons for having kids. There are a lot of rational reasons not to have kids."

Speaking of celebrities and kids...

Comedian Sarah Silverman was quoted recently in the June 2007 issue of Maxim magazine as saying, "I can say pretty confidently I won't be having kids of my own. Maybe I'll adopt when I get sick of this freedom."

I thought that was a good line.

Only 50 reasons? I bet we could come up with a lot more than that!
