Good article, Rae. I do think people tend to frown on hand and face tattoos because of our society's tendency towards being conservative. I have a friend who is getting a tattoo on her lower neck removed, because she wants to be a doctor and she doesn't want to wear turtle necks all of the time. I don't know why a tattoo there would make her less of a doctor, but she's right in thinking that many people would judge her for it... Sad, but true I guess.

I will be getting a tattoo, a small one, right behind my ear. It will be visible. Also as a heavily tattood person who is in the service industry in a very conservative area, the heavily tattooed stigma is almost non-existant. I work in a nice Spa and am not asked to cover up my tattoos or remove my piercings. I have everyone from old ladies who are 90 all the way to young girls who are 14 being serviced by my. Some may look at me weird, may ask questions about my tats, but the rejection that used to face people is almost non-existant.
Also ink and piercings does not make a person any less of a clinician, doctor, asthician, or anything they want to be.

Also ink and piercings does not make a person any less of a clinician, doctor, asthician, or anything they want to be. I definitely agree with that, but not everyone does. Though I've never experienced anything negative in regards to my tattoos, you hear about plenty that do. I guess in the end, you have to do what you think is right. I think my friend is silly to get rid of the tattoo, but it was her decision.

I also have forearm tattoos. I work with kids and don't hide them. I also go into people's homes while they are not home and take care of their pets. People have no problem leting care for the two most important things in their lives even though I have lots of visible tattoos. I think the old ways are changing. And in case you were wondering, tattoos behind the ear aren't too bad but if you get near the crease, on the ear, or on the front of the ear it hurts a lot.
