Percy..

Perhaps you should go online and read about the war from the JAPANESE perspective. The story is very different. The horrors they describe at the hands of the U.S soldiers are just as heartbreaking as those you described at the hands of the Japanese. Many American soldiers were no angels either, and they did their own fair share of raping, piliging and unnecessary killing.. And, it wasn't just the Americans..

The picture you paint is that every soldier sent over there was a wholesome angelic protector that was only protecting his country.. not so.

You are looking at the whole thing from an Allied point of view.
You aren't looking at the fact that Stalin ran rampant through Europe and did worse atrocities to huge numbers of people.. WITH THE BLESSING OF FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT. We may have come out of the war smelling like a rose, but the result for many of the Europeans was a contination of a worse tyranny left unchecked than their predecessors. The war may have been over for us.. but it had just begun for them.

That is the propaganda I am talking about.. we change enemies like we change our hats at the whim of our leader. People are starving all over the world Percy... and what are the leaders of our countries doing to help prevent that? This war we are fighting is costing billions of dollars that could be used to help the starving rather than to create more of them.

Oh yes.. I can say what I want to in this Country. Only because nobody really listens...lol.. not even when we vote.

The life of an innocent Japanese child is no less precious than that of a German child or an American child. All of them deserve the right to live. It was not the innocent people of Hiroshima or Nagasaki that were causing us problems.. so why bomb them?

If a tooth is causing you a problem, you don't pull out every tooth in your mouth.. you go to the source of the pain and take care of that.

Sorry Percy.. there is no justification for what we did in Japan.. none. You can believe what you want to believe, but I would suggest that you do a THOROUGH search of what the leaders of our country were saying and doing at that time, particularly Roosevelt and Churchill. There is documentation in their own words that Japan had already lost the war.. and that the bombs were not a necessary measure.. Go ahead .. check it out.. it's there for the browsing. And while you are at.. check out the atrocities of "Uncle Joe Stalin."

Peace Percy.. Truce!

This has turned into a political debate, and believe it or not.. I am not politically inclined. We will never agree or see things from the same perspective. That is what diversity of thought is all about.

What happened in the past should be recognized for what it was.. examined and observed... and then we should move forward. The days of Hitler and Stalin are past.. and perhaps we have all learned something about how much bloodshed and destruction human beings are capable of inflicting upon one another.

So, bickering over the should have dones, would have dones, and the whys of it all does not change anything. Maybe we are all beginning to realize that there are other ways to agree to disagree than violence.

We can't change the past. but we can definately shape the future...

LOL politics and religion go hand in hand like oil and fire!!! lol Im not a his-story buff but I have enjoyed the post for both sides!!!

it is so complecated its like your doomed both ways because there is no perfect way to stop people from thinking there way is right and all other are wrong becuase it would cause an abuse of power one way or the other!! humans are greedy for power and they dont seem to have a balence or compromise in sight!

You are a wise soul Freebubbles... Perhaps if our world leaders engaged in a debate such as the one between Percy and myself, wars could be avoided. I have always thought that communication was the problem in every case.

The reason a war is always fought is because someone has something someone else wants.. and there is usually a compromise that can be reached.

But, natural disasters can change everything.. and it is the one time that people come together in unity to try and help one another. And, that is going to be happening in our very near future, according to our world scientists. Our planet is heating up and intense climate change is already starting to happen.

Isn't a pity that it takes a catastrophy to bring people together in love and compassion for one another.

Yes it is but it is also in times of disaster that brings out the worst in people!! people start to steel thinks and kill for what they dont have but need or want!! then you have turrf wars!!! and then you have the its us or them mentality come in to play!!

as long as the disarture is not in there homes people will gladly come together and help other but if it is wide spread and world wide....... its not going to be a halmark monent!!

Yes, what we should learn from Hitler and Stalin is what happens to a nation that turns its back on God.

I'll bet they told a different story! You are the one who is getting sucked in with JAPANESE lies and propaganda. When you speak of atrocities, you have NO idea what you are talking
about or comparing! Read about the Burma Railway, Sandakan, and Changi. Read about Bangka Island and the imprisonment of women by the Japanese. Here is a link to make it easier for you:

Jeepers Percy.. Get a grip!! I gave you my opinion and I'm not going to change it any more than you are going to change yours. You see it one way I see it another. That isn't going to change. I still hold by my initial statement that both wars could have been prevented.

The war in Iraq could have been prevented, but unfortunately, I am not in a position to make those decisions. Nor did I help to put the man who made those decisions into office.

As, I said before, we can't change history, but we can learn from it. There is never a 'winner' in any holocaust.

We stop war when we (humanity) learn not to kill. But, like any other creature we have that basic primal instinct. Perhaps we will never overcome that..

My suggestion.. and you are going to hate this one..lol.. is to put women completely in charge of the world. I think that you would find that things would change drastically and that women would seek and find alternatives to killing one another.
