i just figured out something.... ill tell ya da story
ok so i was trying to kill dark valefore hoping for "zanmato" but yeah i payed 30,000 and wakizashi came out.
my gess is that
at da start he wanted 300,000 den i bargained him down to round 220,000.
i think that when you pay him on battle it adds to the amount you payed to get him. for example i payed him 220,000 and i payed him 40,000 in battle and he did a wakizashi BUT! afta a while i built up some cash and payed him 80,000 he did some normal move, but if you add it onto 220,000 its 300,000.
and then after that i payed yojimbo in battle 9 gil he did zanmato for me on some enemy. so basically what im trying to say he wont do zanmato till yu payed off his desired amount..juss a tip for ya it worked for me.

I got yojimbo for 199990 gil. since the beginning i have not payed him more than 100 gil for a move (most of the time i only pay him 1 gil) and he has used different moves everytime so does it really matter how much you pay him?????

Yojimbo has an affection rating for you, and the higher you get it, the more often he does Zanmato. Sometimes he uses Zanmato as soon as he comes out, without you even paying!
Basically, the way to get this rating high is to keep summoning him. Summon him at a consistent rate, ie every 3rd battle, and the rating will go up. Also, paying him a lot of money gets this rating up. Yojimbo on one of my games does Zanmato for 1 gil most occasions. Even his Wakizashi does more than 9999 damage all occasions. It just takes a little time, love and gil....

Awww, all Yojimbo needs is a little love and affection!
Speaking of which, has anybody seen the movie Yojimbo, about the Japanese bodyguard? It's really funny, and it's almost word-for-word in some situations what Fistful of Dollars came from

Yojimbo is quite a tricky one. He can do a normal Katana attack for 40000+ Gil or the special attack (I have it translated, so the name won't say much to you) for 1 gil. Also, does summoning him in Yuna's overdrive mode change chances for this attack? I've already beaten 6 out of 8 Dark Aeons, all with Yojimbo, of course (though, Valefor, as Loza said, is beatable without him). Currently I'm battling Dark Yojimbo , beat him once, but the monk that summoned him, runs away, then I encounter him moving to the exit of the cave and he summons him again, this time no luck for me, standart Katana attack and PS2 reset. After this one, only the Dark Anima is left, which is rumoured to have 8000000 HP ... beating normal Anima is not easy, and this ...

hm, i payed 750,000 for yojimbo at the start (getting 2 teleport spheres for my trouble), then went out dark aeon hunting. He didn't do zanmato at first, then I just called him on two of the normal area monsters, payed him like 1000 gil per shot and he did zanmato both times. Going back to the dark aeon and paying about 10,000 he did zanmato again. It really does seem that if you call him a lot you don't need to pay him as much (and maybe it helped to give him so much at the beginning, seems he felt "appreciated" for his skill when I did *gg*)

just thought i'd share: I'm running around in the cavern of the lost fayth trying to capture tonberry and ghosts, which menas that basically every enemy ir un into is one i don't need. Having nothing else to do, i decided to call in yojimbo whenever fighting an enemy i don't need to capture (after switching everybody in) and giving him somewhere aorund the amount of gil i've managed to pilfer first (usually between 800 and 1200), and boy he sure seems to LOVE me now... in the last 8-9 battles he's done zanmato 6 times. In the last four battles he did wakasashi once and zanmato twice without even asking for money! You know, the guy irritated the heck out of me at first, but now I'm starting to like him ;-)

A Fist full of Dollars was Taken from the Movie Yojimbo. Just like other movies, the Magnificent Seven was copied from The Seven Samurai, and George Lucas even said he copied elements of his 1st Starwars movie, a New Hope, from the old Classic, The Hidden Fortress.
Toshiro Mifune was so Great in all his movies

Yup I have all 3 that you mentioned, Seven Samurai is great but Yojimbo is still my favorite. I wasn't overly fond of The Hidden Fortress but being a big Star Wars fan I watch it occasionally anyway
