My son's fiance is supposed to have this done next week due to some cellular abnormalities in a pap smear...anyone ever have it done? someone she knows told the girl that they HEARD that "it is excrutiatingly painful and you won't work for like two weeks"...I not only doubt it; what I have read it makes it seem even more unlikely... But does anyone actually KNOW????

Well, I haven't heard that it hurt so much but I did heard about the annoying bloody discharge even a month after and some cramping (which is nothing in comparison to the pain you were mentioning).

I'm curious to know how your son's fiance did. LEEPs need to be done under some type of anesthesia - absolutely cannot be done just in an office. I hope this wasn't the case for your future daughter-in-law.

After the procedure, she should not have been anymore uncomfortable than after having a D & C. Yes she may have some discharge, but nothing terribly bloody. That would indicate a problem.

Always better to ask these questions of your (or her) physician than to listen to hearsay. It scares folks unnecessarily more often than not.

tHANKS FOR RESPONDING...THE GIRL'S OB told her it is inoffice and her insurance won't pay for anesthetic PLUS her mother could not care less...she had it done before at 15( do not ask me why---I think they have a plot to scare her into celibacy that has NOT worked)I know her mother will not call about it and the person in question has solved the entire problem by refusing to have the procedure done...She COULD call the insurance people herself and find out BUT won't...argh!
