Hello!
This is not some add. I am a real mom that stays at home with her kids. I work twice as hard at home as I would in any office or other job. It's not easier to work at home it's harder, trust me. If, it's your company that you are running EVERYTHING falls back on you.
I have a job that started small but it kept growing. Sounds great, NO it wasn't. I was working 70+ hours from at home and I had no time for my kids (which is what I thought I was trying to do this whole thing for in the first place.) So, just last year I gave up my biggest job I have done because even tho I was at home I wasn't here for my children.
The reason why I am posting this is just to shed a little light on the whole work at home deal. Yes, there are some jobs that do work out but if you want to really make money it takes work. Work takes time. Time away from your family for the most part. Now, of course I am not saying every single job at home is like this but a lot are.
What I am doing now is that I opened a little store online. It's did take a little time to set up (which I did when my kids were at school over a few days. Still needs more work but a little at a time and not when my kids are at home.) I am not making a lot of money on it yet. I can post back if that changes in the furture but so far I have put in about 30 hours of work and if you take what I have sold by 30 hours...well you'd quit if you were working that many hours for another company and didn't get paid ...lol...! I am not giving up on it tho. I am going to keep building up stock and working on the blog site. I hope to be done with it by the end of this school year for my children. That way during the summer we can just spend time together and I can just make trips to the post office to mail out orders.....
I wish any woman or man luck on staying at home and doing a job. Just don't think it will always be as easy as some of those crazy ads post. It can be done but not without some hard work.

Good luck and I hope to be posting back here in a few months saying different and that I have sold tons of stuff and I never hardly work. I know that wont happen but it would be nice!

Dora,

Good post. You say,

That just about says it all.

Although I am not a SAHM, I do totally agree with you. I have been working from home for 2 years now and although I get personal pleasure of having my own business, etc. I am working longer hours than I did with my 9 to 5 job. The money I make can't touch what I used to make and the office headaches and expenses are all on me. I can imagine that mothers with small children have a difficult time juggling between mom-time and business woman time--because you are home, there is not the physical separation that a 9 to 5'er has. But the up side is that you do get to stay home with your kids during their amazing formative years.

Love your blogs, you have a very interesting life smile I
especially like the Amish rugs blog. They are really quite beautiful. I wish you the best with them.

Thank-you so much.

I just was posting because I see so many places where they have this work at home stuff and make it sound like it's easy. I thought since I have done it that I should post what my experiences with it have been.

Oh, yes I love being able to go get my kids when they are sick and not having some boss to worry about BUT....you always have to make up the time and then some.

I really hope that more mothers (if they choice) can stay at home with their kids and have that extra time with them because it goes so darn fast. I just hope that they don't fall into those scams of...paying someone money for you to sell there products (not that some of those don't work but as we all know...if it was that easy everyone would be doing it.)

Oh, another little side note that I didn't know before I started working on my own at home.... You have to pay DOUBLE SS tax!! That's right, since you don't have an employer paying the other 1/2 which a company does when you work for them..you have to pay it. Now, I am not saying not to try it but it's just a little thing that I didn't know when I first started working at home.

That first year I got my 1099 and I was shocked what I had to pay back (I wasn't smart enought to keep it back during that first year. So, if someone does it budget it back right when your making the money. It's just easier that way.)

Well I don't have a lot of tips on this topic really but I thought I would at least share some of my expericences with working at home.

Hello Dora,
A good post...I am a work at home mother of two kids. My older one is in Kindy and the younger one is 8 months old and hence is with me 24*7. A lot of my friends think that working from home is so easy. But working from home is much much harder. You do have the flexibility and I am grateful for that. You do however end up putting in long hours. Currently because I have a 8 month old child, I spend all my day time with him. During his nap time I am finishing up on my house work. And then my business work starts in the night and I keep working till quite late in the night. I love what I do but it definitely is not easy.
