Last week I started seeing the ruby throated hummers at my feeders. I guess these must be the first of the ones that travel north. The males always come in first and check things out and then I start to see the females. I notice a few different types of hummers that are moving through the area as they fight the rubies for the feeders. Eventually a few pairs of rubies pick their mating spots and start the ritual of eating times once the "travelers" move on.

I had the cutest little nest in a white dogwood tree in my front yard last year. I could tell that they always flew that direction after eating. It was SO cool!
A few years ago I noticed the first ones I saw seemed to disappear after a week or so and I put a note on here at Bella. Lisa Shea came back and said that she was just starting to see hummers at her feeders in NH, so I guess that is just how they filter up the coast. I know how you feel though. I have changed the sugar water more frequently these last few weeks and even remade it and cleaned everything again, just in case!

We are due another cold front here in Maryland tonight, so that may slow them down a little bit, again. I know that I am getting really anxious. I just love to watch them!
