So you love reading romance novels? Have you also tried writing them?

I did try writing some romance novels-I finished 3 actually several years ago but couldn't get them published.

I used to get a little put out when I'd read that so many romance authors were "just moms who thought they could write a romance novel and sat at the kitchen table and wrote one." Then got it published quickly and easily, of course.

Back when I was trying to get a book published it was probably easier than it is now when you need an agent, etc.

If you want to write a romance novel, seriously, you should join a writers group with some published authors who can mentor you.

I've thought about it, but I've never sat down to write one. In my high school yearbook, they had funny one-liner predictions for our future and mine was "Harlequin romance writer."

My novel, Corporate Wives, came out last November. If you can't find a publisher, try PublishAmerica. I must say they don't do much in the way of marketing their books. They must be purchased online via Amazon, Barnes and Nobel etc. The good news is that it doesn't cost anything other than having your picture for the cover taken by a professional. I have had luck with my website, www.karenmusson.com where I let people read the first 23 of 311 pages. If they like what they see, they buy the book. I wrote my novel over a period of about a year and a half. I only wrote when I wanted something to do and never from an outline. I didn't know how it would end until I got there. Writing is fun and I encourage all to give it a try. PublishAmerica allows you to submit your manuscript via e-mail and you don't need an agent. If your goal is to just have a book in your hands that you wrote and money is not important, give them a try. Best Wishes, Karen Musson
