Okay, so I've had an eyebrow piercing for about 7-8 months now. I had nearly no problems with it until recently, the last couple weeks I keep getting keloids building up and nasty scar tissue, infected, swollen looking bumps near the piercing holes. So, after much time spent trying to coddle and care for it, it's still being stubborn, so I decided I should just take it out. I tried tonight to simply unscrew the barbell to remove it, but it's stuck! Is there some trick to this I'm missing? Any suggestions?

If you don't know which direction the jewelry is threaded, it can be tough to figure out. Also, I find some jewelry is really hard to get a grip on. Plus, you've been wearing it for months, and often the threads have some gunk in them, making them harder to turn.

You can try using needle nose and flat nose pliers to grip the jewelry. Tape the ends of the pliers with band-aids, as it keeps the jewelry from getting scratched and provides a bit more grip. Use the needle nose ones to hold the bar and the flat nose ones to grip and turn the ball.

If that doesn't work, it's often a good idea to go to a body piercing shop and have them take out the jewelry.

My brother in-law had the same problem with his nipple ring, he had to use pliers to finally get it out, but it took forever.

When my eyebrow piercing got nearly ripped out by a loosely woven blanket I too tried to save it to no avail. I finally had to have my then boyfriend (who actually was squeamish about doing it) undo it with 2 pairs of needlenose pliers just like Rae described.
