Focus on being happy as just you first; the friends will follow. Confidence is a magnet.

This is absolutely true. When i was in my twenties, i didn't have much confidence. I found that looked to others to make me happy. If they rejected me in any way (even just not being available when i needed them) i became very unhappy.
When i hit 30, something changed in me. I started to think 'what do i like to do?' and 'what makes me happy?'. I stopped thinking in terms of other people, and more about what i could do for myself to change the way i felt. It was good to stop focussing on others for a while.
And it really is true that if you value yourself, others will value you as well. Confidence definitely is a magnet.

Just concentrate on enjoying being you; once you know and love who you are, you will attract people into your life who feel the same way.

Put yourself in situations where you meet people with common interests. Volunteer! Then you have more people to bond with! I don't let very many people get very close, because they generally dissapoint me. I know I'm that way and it's ok with me. I have a great friend, we're like sisters, if we could pick sisters we would pick each other, with that I don't need a lot more in my social life other than my family.

Another thing that I've been doing lately, is contacting some old friends that I've lost contact with. A lot of them I've contacted through facebook.com That's a great little site. I've found people on there that I went to elementary school with and haven't seen in like 14 years. Anyways, in the next month or so I am meeting with 2 friends I haven't seen or talked to for a long time. 1 I haven't had contact with for about 5 years - seen her around a couple times but that's about it. And the other one I haven't seen in about 12 or 13 years. We've exchanged words through letters but that's about it. Turns out she lives in the same city as me, even though we both grew up in a different city together. Strange world.
