Here are some threads I have used for tatting:

Coats Button craft thread---this thread is great for earrings

Perfect quilters thread---I just love the varigated colors. This is a great thread for that fine edging or tatted flowers.

Superior threads King Tut--It too is a quilting thread also great for that fine edging and flowers.

It's worth trying out any sewing thread you can find to see if it works for tatting, it's quite amazing what you can use. Sometimes something will work for chains but not rings (especially if it's a stretchy metallic or polyester thread) and there are lots more possiblities there.

I used to "borrow" the large reels of thread my mother had because she was making cloth dolls known as "Neva" dolls for Hamleys toy shop in London in the early 1970s. Mum could never work out why she never seemed to have any thread!

Generally any cotton sewing thread can be used. if you don't have any of the brands suggested available to you, just look for cotton thread. The same is true of crochet threads although a tightly twisted crochet thread makes rings slide more easily than some of the softer crochet threads.
