Lol Nann....poor kitty..

Well, I finally put Copper..(still have to give this guy a proper name)..in a REAL home ! He's been floating in a bowl in the 10 gallon divided ever since I got him. Waiting for his fins to heal up and also didn't want to put him in that tank with all the problems the others were having with thier fins in there.

I put him in the 5 gallon divided. I did have 3 of my fry in that tank..but I took 2 out and removed one of the dividers. So Copper has the bigger part of the tank and my prize baby has the other smaller part.

That tank has some florite substrata under the smooth stones and 1 very healthy looking live sword plant...3 silk plants and one logtype cave thing on Copper's side of the tank...boy, was he ever happy when I put him in there!! After sulking in a bowl for about 2 months...he blew the biggest bubble nest I've ever seen! He's also started to tear up his fins swimming through the sword plant  ..but I'm not going to worry about it. They're small tears and I'm sure he'll be fine. I don't have the heart to bowl him up again, he'd probably die of a broken heart if I did...lol.

Today when I came home from work...I took a peek at him and he came right over to the side and poofed up all his fins and gave me one of those.."Boy, I love you" stares...oO(yeah right! lol)...he sure is cute. (my new Fave..can you tell)

Happy fish! Just thought I'd let you all know. I thank you, Jalapeno thanks you, and my bank account thanks you! The pet store doesn't thank you, but that doesn't matter Now I just have to make sure he doesn't reinfect himself or doesn't get something like fin rot

Boo, you're doing just fine. I'm glad you both pulled thru this, and it's also good not to spend money on stuff you won't really need, in an effort to feel like you are doing something. These little water puppies really can rack up the expenses well enough without going med crazy! Just ask Emg...or my husband...

...but if you want to spend money, get yourself a digital camera so we can see your fishie!

Well, I got my dad's digital camera, but apparently my mad fish photography skills aren't nearly mad enough...or maybe it's the camera or the lighting...in any event, I attempted and failed at the photography thing. Fish are funny little things to photograph, aren't they!

hi guys!! apologies for the long pause in posties, just been busy.

welcome JustLovly! funny you say "water puppies" because that's exactly how i describe them to my friends. they don't understand why we get so attached to them. when i liken the bettas to pets such as puppies, they look at me funny 'til they meet my Twinky & Mimosa.

EMG, i'm so sorry to hear about Teal. i had no idea and believed he was just dandy since the surgery.

but, honestly guys, i really think there's something to the finrot and water temps. ihaven't had a fin rot problem since the temps have been down around 76F.

unfortunately i lost my daughter's channel snail. i was cleaning out his tank when the dork decided tog o for a long walk off a short pier. she's cracked her shell so badly i didn't think she would make it. but for days she held on. i tried to heal her and fix her shell. when she began to show signs of suffering i put her in the freezer for several hours. took her out to thaw and bury her when i noticed she was still alive!! snails are supposed to die in temps under 60F! we tried to the healing again but she looked so sad and didnt seem to be making progress. sadly and unwantingly, i had to put her down. just couldn't see her suffer anymore. she will be sorely missed by us all, even my friends really liked her.

Elise,

as for a distinction between bubbles and ick, your guy might have ick but here's a bit of info just in case:

3 weeks ago when i came back from miami, i noticed a few oddities on Twinky's tail fin. at first i thought it might've been ick, but then remembered an article i read on gas bubble disease.
upon closer inspection of the tank, filter and fish, i observed the tank sides had many bubbles kinda like champagne. after stirring the water for several minutes and adjusting the water flow of the filter and bringing the water level back up (much evaporation occured while gone), the bubbles reduced to normal and within a few days the "oddities" on Twinky's tail fin were disappearing. ofcourse this is followed up with bettafix treatment. my female betta didn't have this problem and perhaps because she was in a shorter tank. just a reminder to everyone that gas bubble disease does occur and double checking symptoms might save one from misdiagnosis.

nice link to bettadreams.com/diseases.html EMG.
that AEROMONAS/MYCOBACTERIUM??? picture is very similar to what Twinky had not too long ago. i'm still working on sketches for that article guys, just been attacked by lots of chores recently, so time is being spread thin.

Jilly, i would also like to chat with you about possible future articles/ebooks if you'd like. just private message me if interested.

Well, I went back to that site Mel and did a read on the dropsy description...I think I know why Pinkish got it..(did I mention here somewhere that Pinkish died of dropsy??)...anyway...our power went out last week and the temps went down from about 75F to almost 60F overnight. When I came down the stairs to check on the fish after the lights went back on at 1 AM..they were all huddled and pale, looking very miserable...poor babies. I guess little Pinkish wasn't as tolerant as all the others. Everyone else came through it ok except him. It was right after that incident that he started to swell in the abdomen area..and I thought it was constipation at first. By the time I realized what it was it was too late to do much for him.
