Hello everyone,
I intended to get a perm in June, but with recent breaking of my hair, I thought it would be better to just take good care of my hair and leave it like it is. I got a shampoo from my hairdresser, which did help a bit at least. Now I'm beginning to feel doubts, not the usual doubt for "perm of no perm" but for getting it or avoiding it because of my hair's health. Keeping it in wonderfull shape usually means avoiding chemical jobs if possible as a first big tip. If anything I could do, would a wash and set or just letting the hairdresser curl my hair with benders when wet and letting it dry under a dryer be a good alternative to a perm? Or would the heat contribute too much to the damage as well?
It would be more a matter of still getting some curl, even if it's only for a short time, without much damage. Or prep for a perm and avoid as much damage this way without having to deal with frequent visits and damage to using heat?

Guess what? I give massages and reiki. More info here!

Since I know you don't want to cut your hair smile I wonder whether the ends will ever be in good enough condition to perm.

Setting it on benders once in a while is better for the condition if you are willing to take the extra effort.

Thanks Lynne. I'm not good at all settings benders myself, so I think a visit to the hairdresser or asking somebody to help that has some experience with this would be a good thing to do. smile

My hair DOES get cut a bit often, not with each visit to the hairdresser, but usually the ends are trimmed. I don't know if that would be sufficient, I guess it is.

Hi Isa,

How are you?

How's your hair? If you don't think your hair is in the right condition for a perm, then just wait...plus, with summer coming, hair does get a little drier and maybe frizzy, so a perm would only add to that...

Just keep getting regular trims and soon enough it will be ready for you to perm it, if that's what you want to do...

Thanks for the support franny. If I can get rid of the breaking and see my hair in a healthy state, I could consider letting my stylist work her magic on my hair. I'll certainly ask for a little smaller rods, so it has tighter curls.
