Can someone pleeeeeeeeease help. I am having problems in making bobble stiches, I am really confuse. The pattern is as follow: Knit into the front, back, fron, back, front of the stitch where you want the bobble (making 5 stitches in 1). K1, P5 Turn, K5 Turn, P5 Turn, P5 then slip, one at a time, the second, third, fourth, and fifth stitches on the right needle over the first stitch and off the needle(decreasing the 5 stitches back down to 1). Turn once more and knit into the back of the bobble stitch. Continue across the row. Does anyone know of a video showing how to do this stitch.
I would gladly appreciate anyone who can help me.
Thanks.
EV

Hi Ev,
Not sure which part confuses you, so let me give it a shot...
Overview: With a bobble stitch, you increase like crazy in a single stitch, then you do extra rows by turning the work back and forth but only working those increased stitches and not the whole row, and then after you do extra rows, you decrease all those stitches back to the original one. Does that make sense?
So the increase part... knit a stitch but don't take it off your left needle (one loop on right, one on left), then re-enter the same stitch, but this time you need to go down the loop on the left needle (pointing the needle towards the back, in other words... not like a purl), again wrap it and pull it through but don't take it off your left needle, do it in the front again, then the back again, then the front again... so now you have 5 loops on the right needle, and now you can drop the loop off the left needle. You've increased 5 stitches where there once was one.
You want to give it a try and let me know if you get it?

I really need to learn to knit with needles. I wish I could help you with this one but I can't with needles. I have a video on how to do bobbles on looms on my blog but not needles. I know it doesn't help but you can see how to do bobbles on looms here BellaOnline ALERT: Raw URLs are not allowed in these forums for security reasons. Please use UBB code. Yeah, i haven't seen one, but i'd like to know about a video too, because i teach 6 knitting classes a week and would love to be able to email a link to students.
I think you would enjoy knitting on needles. I've been looking into knitting machines... only used one once and that was soooooo long ago! Is that the same as loom knitting? I've done some weaving... i don't have a loom, but i saw a little one advertised in a knitting magazine this week with a lovely skirt project and you're reminding me i want to look into how much it costs.

I do need to take some time and learn needles.
I love looms and can do a lot on them. You can do the bobbles, cables, i-cords, garter stitches, drop stitches, and so on.. I Love them.
Prices for a loom (not the knitting machine) are pretty good. You can pick a set up at Joanns (called Knifty Knitters made by Procraft) for like $14.99-$20 (round plastic looms. Reg/large gauge. You can do different stitches to get a tighter stitch on them.) If, you watch though you can use their 40% off coupons on them.
You can get some nice wooden looms even in fine gauge as well. I love rakes, boards, round, spool, heck..I like them all.. You can even do double knits on boards. The nicer wooden ones cost a little more money but they are nice. They even have adjustable looms!
The nice thing about loom knitting is the people. You'll be amazed on how helpful they are. There are tons of videos on how to do them as well. Most of them are free.
I have some on this page where I make a hair scruchie. Step by step (now, my videos are no where near as nice as some of the other ladies but I like to do them now and then just to add to more of them being out there for free. I just do this stuff for a hobbie where a lot of the ladies who do this own stores. So, I am on a limited budget..lol.)

Thank you! Well, over my lifetime i've knit lots... but seem to have less time for it now than i would like. I don't get as much time to knit as you may think. When i'm teaching, i actually don't get to knit much on my own stuff... often not at all, because i'm fixing other people's mistakes, demonstrating, figuring out someone else's pattern and explaining it to them (lots of that!), walking them through steps on their own knitting, helping them select the right yarn for their project, and watching, watching... always watching. HAHAHA! The tease me about that, because they noticed there might be 6 people at the table and lots of talking and i'll be helping the person on my right and simultaneously know the person across the table has dropped a stitch or wrapped their yarn the wrong way and i know it before they do! haha I'm not exaggerating, this DOES happen sometimes and they think i have supernatural abilities or something, but it's just experience teaching. I know when to keep an eye on a student to break them of a habit, etc.... and when i don't have to. I watch everyone to some extent, but like sometimes they just don't have faith they can do it on their own, so i'll stand behind their chair... they feel safe then, LOL! And i might say, "that's good, you're doing great!" because i KNOW they'll do fine...but i confess... i may actually be watching someone else! I have described teaching knitting to be akin to that old Vaudville routine where the guy would balance spinning plates on the top of tall sticks. When class starts, most of the plates are down (in other words, people are stuck and need my help to get going again). My job is to get all the plates up and spinning and try to keep them that way! HAHHAHAHA. I know what you mean now by the knitting looms... yes, i've seen them! I'm curious to see an adept person use them. I was thinking of getting a machine... but don't know enough about them. Last i remember, with the affordable ones you had to do all the changes by hand anyway, which didn't give it any speed over stick knitting for anything but plain knits. I know there are attachments you can get for intarsia, etc. I just wish i could see some good demos and be able to ask questions. Unfortunately a lot of the projects i've seen that were done on them look cheesy. I'm sure they can do better in the right hands. Too bad the good ones cost thousands! I don't even know anyone who owns a cheap one. That was funny about your jamming them... must be psychological, LOL... i knew woman who always stalled her car while driving over train tracks. We have a local weaver's guild that's absolutely awesome. They'll loan you looms and other equipment for a small deposit (i think i heard $20). No rental charge at all. My only complaint is... they always meet on a night when i teach!!!! I can't meet with them. Ah well, such is life!

I'd love to go to a weaver's guild near me. I have been thinking about going for over a year and every time I think I am going to go something comes up.
I still can't figure out how to run one of those without jamming it. It's got to be me because my husband will see me doing it and come over to see if something needs adjusted for me. He'll run it back and forth a few times and never jams it once. I go back to doing it and jam it right up. I guess I am not meant to use a machine like that..lol..
I think that's great you can help like that with people. You sound like a wonderful teacher. I wish you lived here. I would love to learn to needle knit. One day I know I will (I hope for this fall really.)
Spring and summer I have 4 horses to work and my kids are home from school. So, I get less time for my hobbies. When I do get some time it seems to be to do a favor for someone or I am making something because someone is having a baby or getting married (not a lot of me time for that it seems.)
Well I better get off here and go feed the animals before it rains. Looks like I may get a little me time today after all!
Great talking with you.
