Is there a way to get to Besaid temple without fighting the dark Valefor or an easy way to beat Dark Valefor without having to get you hp past 9999

ok, i am stuck on this too. But when u beat him u get a wicked new overdrive for valefor.
the only thing u can do, is get yojimbo, and keep trying over and over until u get him to attack with zanmato.
After that,u lose unless u have over 9999, because one of his normal attacks is your overdrive, energy ray!

Dark Valefor can be beaten if you have party members with the Break HP limit fairly easily. Have Rikku mix a mega vitality (2xstamina tablet) that doubles the parties HPs. If you have beaten Omega and won the Chocobo race under reniem you should have two members with over 9,999 HP, after the mega vitality they should have over 20,000HP, that allows you to resist the 9,999 energy ray, keep Hastega up and have a character casting auto life whenever needed just in case.

A good thing to know is that mega vitality or viatlity (2xhi-potions) stacks so if Rikku gets it off again you can double your characters HPs again, the highest I have managed is 80,000

Valefor is actually the easiest of the darn Dark Aeons.

whoops missed what ya said about without the break HP

Hehe, best bet in trying to do it without, is at least two characters with auto phoenix equiped and the alchemy ability. Keep casting auto life (preferably with the One MP Cost ability as at 97 it soaks up mana fast!)

That way your party should stay alive long enough to kill him.

dark valefor is only active in the int'l versions of the game and you only get him coming out after you get the airship I think. Then again I never trekked all the way back there too much grief.... and trust me if you don't face dark valefor don't complain the dark aeons are ALL pains in the [censored] to get to.

Valefor is actually quite easy with a little building up of your party. When I finally beat him all it took was an overdrive from Anima, followed by the Magus Sisters Delta Attack.

Dark Valefor only has 800,000 HPs, compared to double that for most of the other Dark Aeons.

Stuck on Ixion at the moment that darn Thunderaja attack is a pain

You people are really getting me worried ya know? Got the game Sunday, decided to race through it, and now I hear about all this [censored] that I either have to miss out, or spend ages trying to win...

I figured that as it was my first time through it, I shouldn't bother too much with levelling up and learning all the skills, but now I'm starting to get to the parts with these Dark aeons, solid bosses and I'm considering starting again, properly getting as strong as I can... Are they really as hard as you make out? I had trouble beating Yunalesca the first time, so one of these will KO me in no time...
