Hi, it's me again, blush I seem to be asking a lot of questions recently, sorry.

Anywho, I haven't done a search yet but I'm going to after I post this. Do Crowntails prefer a certain kind of food? I have Aquarian floating pellet food and my run of the mill betta, Mars, loves it and gobbles it up like mad but my Crowntail ignores it. If I come back in an hour or so, the pellets are gone and I can't see them at the bottom. Now, my main question is this, tonight I noticed him pecking through the gravel and eating, I have no idea what. Anyone know??

I don't think it is specific to crowntails, but individual bettas can have different food preferences. Many won't eat flakes, some don't like certain pellets. My veiltail wouldn't eat the first two types of food I tried (flakes and one brand of pellets) but he loves Hikari Betta Biogold pellets and freeze dried bloodworms. Sometimes you just have to try different things and see what works. I've heard that bettas prefer live food, but that seems kind of icky to me. ^_^

Hi, It could depend on the size of your Betta. If he is smaller, he might like smaller food - there is a new kind of Betta food that is tinier pellets. You can get it from a petstore called Aquarium Odyssey if you think that might help and you want to try it. They have a website on the Internet. Yes, even though people will tell you that Bettas are topfeeders, I have observed that some Bettas have mouths that are more upturned and these usually find it easier to eat from the surface of the water. Other mouth shapes easily pick up pieces of food that drops to the bottom of the tank! Some crowntails have been known to prefer algae wafer! How are your fishies doing? What's your crowntail's name? Mars is a great name! How did you end up naming him Mars? smile

Yes, individual bettas do have their own preferences, interestingly enough - once again - like people do! Try some betta food in flake form and some frozen brine shrimp for a treat. Make sure that if he is not eating it is not for some other reason - like maybe he doesn't feel well if the water is not kept clean. ( :
