I have been trying to tat a small doily. I do not have trouble with the center, but the next round is not big enough to go around the center. If I do the join for the second round the center cups. I have tried adding two extra sets of rings but then it is out of round. What am I doing wrong and how can I correct this. I have tried making the picots in the center smaller, but that doesn't seem to help. I am ready to give up tatting.

I am a new tatter myself and really love it! I don't claim to be an expert of any kind. However, it sounds like you should have a chain between your rings on the second row. Could that be it? Whatever you do....don't give up! When I first started tatting I was so frustrated I could hardly see. I looked at books, internet, you name it. What helped me the most was I went to the library and got a tatting video. You wouldn't believe how easy it was to learn! Now, any time I'm sitting down, I have a tatting shuttle in my hand. I love it!

Is your pattern by anychance one of the other ones? I understand that there might be errors in some of them? If you let me know the pattern you are working on...I'll take a look at it and see if I can help you?
