It feels like spring is finally on its way here in Kansas. Today I was outside building a compost box (for lack of a better word). I am really excited to get back to composting regularly again. Do you all compost? Do you have interest in learning to compost? I think I might write this week's article on composting.

I'd love to know more about composting. In particular, should I be concerned that my cat likes to use my compost as an outdoor litter box?

I'd be interested in worm beds (is that the right term?) too.

I compost. Been doing it all winter. We take about 10lbs of of waste a week with just the two of us. It amazes me.

I just got a new book on composting I haven't had a chance to look at it yet but I'm looking forward to it. It's called Compost: the natural way to make food for your garden.

It definitely doesn't feel like spring up here in Canada. Especially after the snow/ice storm we had on Friday but I'm still in the spirit. I ordered a climbing rose called Blaze and a couple other small things from Vesey's tonight. Part of their flyer promotion. 50% off. I couldn't resist and have had my eye on this cliber for a while.

I did some looking to get some back up for my original opinion, and it is not a good idea to let you cat use the compost pile as a litter box. They can have round worms and also other parasites and leave them in the garden. Here's an article I found about it, and with some suggestions to keep your cat out of the compost pile.

I have just joined,and I need to know all about composting,I retired the frist of Jan 07,and I love being outside,I have a small vegetable garden,and lots of landscraping,with paths,and I also have a water garden.I can vegetables,and freeze some also>I love to look out any window in our home,and see something of intrest,I don't just plant,and plan to show off to other people,sure I want things to look nice,but I want to see the fruits of my labor.

Congrats on your retirement and having time to garden now! I am in a bit of the same boat. Last year I left corporate america to work from home and raise my daughter. I too am excited about having more time to play in the garden.

Thanks for the list - my compost previously has mainly been grass clippings and raked leaves. The one thing I can tell you about composting is, quantitie not quality. It takes years to build your soil and nothing helps as much as mega tons of compost. I gather about 6,000 bags of leaves a year and after four years it is starting to show the results.
