We hear all too often what people think of our homeschooling lifestyles, particularly the negative. Let's take a moment to talk about the NICE things people say!

Have you received any nice compliments about your lifestyle?

One of the best I've heard was last August. A friend and I took our kids (8 in total, ages 10, 10, 8, 7, 4, 3, 2, 1 and we were both pregnant with #5!) to a restaurant for breakfast on a weekday morning. When we went in you could see the hostess and waiter groan but by the time we left they had both stopped to tell us how well-behaved our kids were and how surprised they were with how well the kids got along with each other. I took it as a lifestyle comment because when I was a kid I couldn't stand to be around my siblings or their friends!!

You have every right to take that as lifestyle compliment and comment. I admire you for your committment to homeschooling your children.

We also get a lot of great comments, not just on behavior but on how inquisitive and outgoing my son is. smile

As for homeschooling in general, I tend to get supportive responses because of my teaching background. Also, in this area, homeschooling is pretty common...

I haven't been homeschooling my DD long enough to get any responses one way or another, really. My friend is a 4th grade public school teacher and we have some interesting discussion though. Even though we don't see eye to eye on that topic, she has said she thinks I'm going to be a good teacher, that she's seen an improvement in Emilee's learning ability since I started working diligently with her to focus.

I've honestly yet to get a negative response, the most common response is either "Wow I thought about doing that but didn't think I could handle it" or "You're really lucky!" to my kids smile
