Don't be sorry at all, I enjoyed reading your post :-)
THis is SOMEWHAT OFF TOPIC, I know, but heres a list of my favorite ALL TIME GAMES hat I still play today:
Leisure Suit Larry collection <3 is the B E S T!) Kings Quest Collecion <3 and especially 6 are amazing games. 6 was one of the FIRST EVER CD-rom games) Space Quest <I dont even NEED to comment on the genius of this series) Quest for Glory series <4 was awesome!) Escape from Castle Wolfenstien <Old Apple 2 game, very addicting. SS! LOL) Kyrandia Trilogy <Mark Hamil, better known as THE JOKER or LUKE SKYWALKER, provided voice talent for Malcom the Joker, the star of the third game) Civilizations 2 <A newer title, but an awesome game) Willy Beamish <Not a very well knownj title, but a G R E A T game all the same) Duke Nukem 3d <The first game I ever played over a phone line with a 9600 baud modem with a friend) Monkey Island Series <W O W!)
Wow, those are just a FEW. I love the old school games so much, and its kind of sad to see that Adventure games, well, adventure games as classic as the old school Sierra tiutles, have gone the way of the do-do. Sure, there are some AWESOME Adventure games out there, but they just dont have the same feel <sniff) Gone are the days when an adventure game had you so flustered, that your only solution was to either buckle down and try harder, or order a hint book. NO INTERNET LMAO! THe internet has dumbed down and taken so much away from computer players in the Adventure Game genre, due to the fact that all you have to do is do a search for a solution and there you have it. Ah well :-P -Scott

Auron, let's keep it nice, everybody can express their opinion, and every opinion is always valid. That's what opinions are all about

Hey, your all time list was great! I'll start a new thread on that topic, that's a great topic to explore.
I grew up on Adventure and Zork and they definitely were great fun, all the puzzles. Tho some of them were WAY too obscure and could literally stump you for months until you randomly hit the solution they wanted. Which isn't much fun. I really really loved Myst 3 and judging by the number of hits on my walkthrough of it, I'm not alone. That had amazingly good puzzles, a great plot line that really involved you, great graphics, great audio, just about everything. The video of you riding the rollercoaster for example was just amazing! So if I was going to play a puzzle game, and the choice was Zork or Myst 3, yes Zork was great fun but Myst 3 was great fun *and* had all that other stuff. So going forward I would much rather play ten new Myst 3 clones next year vs ten new Zork clones ...
However, your other point is one that I think about quite a bit. I am very against cheating, and I am very against people just having a walkthrough open and stepping through a game by following it. Games are supposed to be a challenge, a mental pitting of your brains against the puzzles and challenges in a game. Whether it's how to defeat that final boss at level 20 in Dungeon Keeper 1 (which is really nasty, and I still get questions on it) or whether it's how to free the bird in Myst 3 or how to get your Red Alert troops to defeat a certain level, it all comes down to thinking the puzzle through.
These games are all *winnable*. They don't sell you a game that can't be won. And they deliberately lay out the missions so that you learn as you go, so that by the time you reach the end you have all the skills you need to defeat that final challenge. If you cheat along the way, you don't GET those skills and therefore can't win the later levels either without cheating. And if you don't even try - just read a walkthrough somewhere - the same is true. You might be able to win because you follow the steps, but you didn't figure it out on your own, meaning often you don't UNDERSTAND the solution, and you're just going to be stuck later on.
So on one hand I provide walkthroughs because it really, really sucks to be stuck on something stupid for months when a nudge could get you past it and on to finish the rest of the game. However, I do really worry that some people out there get stuck for 2 minutes, don't even try, hop on to read the walkthrough, and never use their own brain. Which just sets them up for failure later in that game or in other games they play. Even worse, I worry that some people START with the walkthrough and don't even try at all. Why buy the game, then?

Well, I'm sorry but I loved FF8 and found it hugely addictive, more so than 9. I think the biggest hook in these games are the characters. Not just the ones you control. The bad guys, the quirky townsfolk, the aeons/GFs/summon beasties, and of course the omnipresent Wedge, Biggs and Cid. And I think that the characters in 8 are brilliant.
You don't seem to have any valid reason for not liking FF8, Auron. You seem more interested in slating those that do.
Someone must have cast 'Confuse' on you. Don't worry, I'll sort you out: *Cam casts 'esuna' on Auron*
A' da best, Cam.

OK I'm a weirdo then I liked FF8 a lot, and the characters were definitely a huge part of it. You could really relate to the things they went through. The FF9 guys were just like little cartoon characters, like Mickey and Minnie Mouse. They felt very superficial. It was fun, but it was a 'game' sort of like Super Mario, and not nearly as immersive.

Keep it civil please folks!!
No-one likes to see that kind of talk.
Personally I didn't get into 8 at all, thought it was far too slow paced. The story just took too many breaks from actual playing, whilst you accpet that as part and parcel of any FF title, I thought 8 got the balance wrong. The sub games were irritating instead of truely adictive like those in 7.
I loved 9 a lot, reminded me of 7 which was my favourite to date, there was the quirky humour back, and the combat system had the pacing spot on.
10 though is a revelation, wonderfully wierd story as normal, but decently voice acted (something I worried would fall flat), good amends to the combat system, jaw dropping graphics, and well paced throughout, complete with the ability to power up your characters close to the end if you want to, and expand the gameplay (If you plan on trying to beat Nemisis or the dark aeons you'll be extending the games life two fold)
Pity you couldn't go back after finishing the story. Personally I saved and went back to trying to complete the arena challenges after beating the end game.
So ten squeezes out seven as my favoutite, followed by nine and then eight.
