My zebra finchs just had two little babies, now in thier fledgling stage.
Safe to say, I feel in love with both. I know that they will have more chicks later on, and I'm counting on it, but these two... I want to keep them. But I'm afird of them breeding with the parents, and even each other (but we think that both are probably boys.)

We just got a new flight cage, which easyly holds the family, mates for the babies, if it comes to that, and quit a few more. Its big enough a few cockateils.

I there anything I can do? Such as seperating them when there older, and untill I get them mates of there own? I knew there is no way for sure, but advice would be great. Or tales from others who kept the babies.

Zebras are avid breeders and the babies will breed with each other if they are the opposite sex and they don't have other potential mates. It never ceases to amaze me how Zebra and Society finches inbreed so much yet somehow produce healthy babies. LOL - I have had many generations of Zebra Finches and they do get very LOUD with higher numbers! LOL The beeping chirp can give me a migraine just in remembering it! Way back in mah high school days (J/K - not THAT old!) I went from 3 finches to 24 in about 6 months (plus a few pairs of different species were added by purchase). I couldn't find a pet store or human to GIVE those finches to! Fortunately I did eventually find them all homes before college, but I actually started sleeping in the guest room b/c the birds woke up WAY too early for me and were much too loud to let me sleep. Have lotsa fun!!!
