I have just gotten a Female zerba finch from a family that had a cat that aheam...ate the others.

We brought her into the pet store today to get her a mate, but the only finch left is a female, and they don't know when more are coming in.

Ro has already lad eggs before we got her, but she is also very lonley now. One day I would like to bred her.

Should we get the female now, and get a male later on? Or wait a week or two?

I would get another female finch for her to hang out with & forget about breeding her.

But what will I do when I want to breed?

And I was told that having a male and a female was better then same sex pairs, that they get along better.

I keep my females with other females & my males with other males. I don't have problems with excessive egg laying - I don't have any birds plucking each other - I don't have any fighting. I also don't have to worry about whether I have enough room to keep the babies.

Why do you want to breed?
If you have room for babies, you also have room to keep 2 or 3 pairs of birds. This means you can get another hen now & then get 2 males when there are males available. If you are going to keep them in pairs, I would suggest 3 or more pairs though.

Thanks for all your help.

But by the time I got to the store the other bird was gone. I didn't have to wait though, today I found another on my doorstep. He's from my dad as a early birthday present. He got the zebra finch at the pet store in a differnt town, (Newport.)

Ro loves him, she so happy to have a firend.
