Are you talking about walls, floors and ect? Cages, perches ect? One of the best things you can use for cages is bleach and elbow grease. Be sure that you have clean surfaces because if the surfaces are not clean then they will not be disinfected. I like to scrub the cages down good with bleach and soapy water and then rinse and let sit outside in the sun for a few days. Bleach is one of the safest things you can use. I always do this outside. As far as inside cleaning maybe someone else will come along with ideas. Connie in Oklahoma

I believe you said that your aviary was outside - am I right? As Connie mentioned, bleach & soapy water - lots of scrubbing - rinse it off - & let it dry in the sun. Do this with everything in the aviary as well as the cage itself.

Michael,

I would not use compost/manure if the birds would have access to it. Also if the plants are going to be close where the birds will be able to chew on them or ect then you need to make sure that you use bird safe plants. Some plants are poisionus and will make your bird very ill or kill them.

Some of the plastic plants look very realistic.

Hi Michael! Try this link to check for "bird-safe" plants:

http://www.multiscope.com/hotspot/safeplants.htm

It is mainly about wild birds, but I am assuming it would work the same way for parrots and the like! Good luck with your aviary and please update us with your progress soon! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
