My hair is very thin and fine. Though this makes it very soft, that's about the only good thing about it! I almost always keep it long. I've tried cutting it short for more volume, but it didn't help at all. When I was a teen it was always very oily. Now I'm not so sure. I used to use volumizing shampoo and conditioner and it worked fine. My hair had a bit of volume and it was easy to brush out. I'm 22 now and it's changed. I've tried tons of different brands but though they all work great for a few days, they all end up the same. My hair doesn't brush out easily like it used to and it seems damaged. I blow-dry it once in a while but that shouldn't hurt it too badly. I have tons of really short hairs at the top of my head, especially around my face that are always sticking up straight. It looks horrible and I don't know why the hair seems to be breaking like that, or maybe not growing. I also keep getting horrible tangles, especially at the back of my neck. I bush my hair out a lunch, but it only lasts so long. I just don't know what to try next!

Your describing the hair I used to have. The only thing I can tell you is that I started experimenting with chemical jobs at that age, started with a mild coloring job, which went from blond -> dark brown. Now I also tried perming my hair and since then, my hair looked very nice, started to tangle less, wasn't oily any more, felt fine and was nice.
Still didn't get me a date, but I melted each time I saw the color or curls in the mirror.

So my hair type like it was back then was similar, but I got rid of it by overcoming my initial fear for coloring and perming. Talking to your hairdresser may help. But look for different ones until you find one that you like. I've had one that refused to cut just a little bit off with each visit because she thought I could never get good hair that grows past my shoulders, nor perm or color it. I had to keep it short. Rubbish, of course, but she thought the only good look would be short hair. I found a better hairdresser that comforted me and colored my hair while I was sitting at the mirror, so that I could see what happened.

While I don't visit her anymore either, it set me over my initial fear for chemical jobs and resulted into the hair I have today, which is way past shoulder length and while not being thick, it's good and healthy.

Guess what? I give massages and reiki. More info here!

With the tangles you're getting, I suggest looking at the post about "dry hair" and reading the article I suggested there and the related articles. I would not suggest haircolor until you get to the bottom of the tangle problem.

I've never colored my hair and I don't plan on it. I have permed my hair a few times, but that's all grown out now. It just seems so strange that I'd have problems now, when I'm NOT doing anything to it. It's quite ironic, acutally.

Perms can be very very drying and damaging (more then coloring) perhaps it is not completely grown out as you think. Have you used INFUSIUM 23,works great for dry/damaged hair. There is a leave-in conditioner as well.

I actually have the Infusium 23 leave-in conditioner. So far, no luck. But maybe it just takes some time.

Yeah, I think you will need to use it over a period of time to see the results.
