I am trying to knit a sweater from a pattern that seems to have an error. Hard to explain, but here goes. I cast on 46, ended up with 50 after increases. There are two markers for a cable panel with 12 stitches. When I try to knit the pattern across to the end, which is interrupted by the cable panel, I find the number of stiches cast on do not allow complete sets of the pattern to be knitted. I always end up with left over stitches and noplace to knit them? For instance, there are 19 stitches up to the cable panel. At stitch 19 I still have two more stitches to knit, but cannot. Is this an error, or am I just so new to knitting that I don't know what to do? I hope someone can help. I am so frustrated.

Where's the pattern from? Errata (corrections) are usually posted on the publisher's &/or author's websites. Or try Googling the name of the pattern plus the word errata to see if anyone else has had problems.

Hi, editorgrrl is right, there may well be an error in the pattern. Cables are usually knit all knit stitches and purl all purl stitches unless of course it's lace.

Did you get it figured out or get local help to get it straightened out? I'd be interested in knowing... i have a hunch, you see that it is not a pattern error, though it could have been written more clearly. Often when you are working in patterns you have two seperate things going on... one is your instruction for size, and the other your instruction for pattern repeat. They give ONE instruction for pattern repeat, which you have to "adjust" for different sizes, because some of the sizes will have more stitches than others. Did this pattern come with a chart for the pattern? Either way, if i saw the pattern i could let you know how to do it.
