Hello.
I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on what time of year is best for pruning apple trees. Some of the references I've seen have said it should be done in the coldest part of winter, but others disagree. I'm new to the property, but the trees seem quite old and it doesn't look as though they've been pruned in at least 5 years, probably longer.
Thanks so much for any help.
(I live in eastern Canada if that makes any difference).

Hi Hiker,
I too have an apple tree on my property. I must say we have been awful about pruning that poor tree. So thanks for getting me out there to look for the info on how and when I should do it. Here's an article I found that might help. And it seems that the time to do pruning is late winter or early spring. I also read if you prune in deep winter not to fertilize in the spring. Good Luck, maybe someone else with more experience with trees will pop in. But for now, here's that article.BellaOnline ALERT: Raw URLs are not allowed in these forums for security reasons.
