This weekend my husband and I went to a movie (the previous weekend we saw TWO movies!), ate out at two different restaurants, bought a new blouse for me, and bought a Nintendo DS Lite and 5 games for it. I also worked in the garden, went to the library, hubby had a haircut, and we washed 2 of our 3 cars. We also tidied the house because the maids will be cleaning the house today. All of this was possible because.... yep you guessed it... we don't have kids!
If we had kids we would not have the time or money for any of the things we did this weekend, so I'm very happy with our life choices.
I hope everyone else had a great weekend too!

On Friday night, I went to the gym. On Saturday, my Childfree Meetup met for a winery tour and winetasting in Central Mass (fruit wines...grapes don't grow that well here!), then headed for a fabulous, leisurely Japanese dinner. It was our largest Meetup turnout ever (20 --- a third of our membership!). Half of the people there were new members. Really fun!

On Sunday, after sleeping really late, I went to a girlfriend's house (she's a flutist buddy of mine) and she, another flutist and I played trios (some with bass and alto flute, too) in the afternoon. We're preparing for some performances.

Then I came home and had a lovely evening of rather gourmet nookie with hubby. cool

All of this was particularly welcome, given that I just finished the most challenging section of my teaching year (in addition to my regular teaching load of music performance and theory classes, I teach the junior class (33 kids) a 3-week block of Music History ---- 1000 years of Western Art Music (classical music), accompanied by a sort of glossy overview of the accompanying European (and later, American, too) sociopolitical history. Lots of papers to correct, plus 1.5 hours a day of actual class time. It's a lot of fun, but I'm sooooo glad it's over!

Let's see ... we got a new puppy so we spent a lot of the weekend hanging out with him and making sure he and our other dog got along. We had some sleepless nights cause he's got kennel cough and it only really seems to bother him at night. Sunday we went to my dad's house for my sister's birthday - that was fun. All weekend people were stopping by to see the new puppy. We had beef sandwiches from dinner - yummy!

So, nothing exciting or productive. Oh, my older dog and I took a nice nap on the couch Sunday afternoon.

Well, my hubby and got up early on Saturday and went furniture shopping. We need a dining room set with the china cabinet, etc. So, we spent the whole day looking at furniture to find nothing that I really cared for..ugh. Afterward, we ate at this great Japanese place...I'm getting hungry just thinking about it! After eating lots of good food and having some wine, we ventured to Best Buy to purchase an external hard drive for our computer. On Sunday, my hubby did homework most of the day (he is in school part time while working). I slept in, cleaned up the house, did laundry, and played with our cat. I also spent some time in the whirlpool, just relaxing and reading...that was great! Sunday night, after my hubby's homework was finished, we watched a movie and talked for the longest time. So, nothing too exciting, but it was a great weekend. They are never long enough.

How can you prove whether at this moment we are sleeping, and all our thoughts are a dream; or whether we are awake, and talking to one another in the waking state?

My husband and I flew to Albuquerque last Thursday and then drove to Santa Fe. It's one of our favorite destinations. We stayed in our favorite hotel (historic building, small rooms, not family friendly), ate at New Mexican restaurants (food too spicy for most children), visited art galleries and sampled fancy restaurant food (lots of walking...not kid friendly) and went skiing (okay, there were families there, because we had to go on a Sunday). We had a great time and enjoyed seeing the sights and relaxing.

However...at one restaurant we went to, there was a family with about five young kids which were obviously bored out of their minds while the adults tried to have a leisurely meal. The kids were playing their video games, getting up to visit with each other and talk to their parents. This restaurant is small (quaint) and cramped, and caused quite a bit of inconvenience for the waitstaff when the children were up and around their table.

It turned out the couple seated next to us at that same (cozy) restaurant had two young children, but they had left them at home with Grandma so they could enjoy a weekend as a couple. They said they assumed everything was okay at home, because they hadn't heard from Grandma! I said I felt the same way, since I hadn't heard from our dogsitter, everything must be going okay!
