All disease is caused by sin. Some diseases are directly related to the sins of the ill person. Such as STDs or diseases of the liver caused by alcohol or drug abuse. Most disease however is the result of corporate sin. There was no disease in the world until mankind sinned so it's all our fault. So, it's not God's fault. It's ours.

The hatred spewed forth in this sentence is appalling and should give any thinking Christian cause for concern.

There is nothing hateful about that statement. It is purely Biblical. Disease is caused by the sin of mankind. Death and its companion, disease, were brought into the world by man's rebellion to life, to God.

Newborn babies born with cancer, downs syndrome, blind or into a world where the sustenance of life is not met. If I thought that this God existed I would openly despise him, and refuse to worship him.

I am being held to account for the sins of someone who supposedly lived 6000 years ago. This God guy is definitely vengeful.

Also, while you never came out and said it the homophobic overtones are very apparent.

What LL is trying to say is that death and disease were the natural consequences of man's rebellion to God. That is what the Bible says.

I am quite aware of what LL is trying to say. In fact she said it quite well. Adding "That is what the Bible says." carries no weight with me.

Perhaps not, but saying that is not hateful. Who is the object of that hatred? Mankind overall?

I'm still trying to figure out how this new crop of *religious* scientists will try to reconcile how - based on scientific data some of which is even produced by them - the earth appears to be about four and a half billion years old yet they *believe* the bible's version of the earth's age at a couple thousand years old. That god guy had to have expended some real effort for that elaborate deception. I'd throw in that he's deceitful and manipulative as well.

Oh, and so I'm not totally off the current topic ... I agree with Skeptic. What kind of all-powerful entity has an entire species 'pay' for sins that did not originate with them personally and individually? I have held deformed and diseased children and can't think of a single rational argument that reconciles the sin argument with the all-powerful, loving entity Christians yammer about. Who is he punishing? The parents? The nurses that have to care for them at all hours? The siblings? It can't be the infants that can't even roll over yet and certainly can't commit a sin on their own. Oh wait, it must be the taxpayers since the medical bills for that sort of treatment often bankrupts people. The babies are just collateral damage - it really all makes sense now ....(yes the sarcasm abounds).

Have you ever lied? Stolen, even if it was small? Have you ever lusted after someone? If so, you are a sinner and God judges sinners for the sins they have committed. You need Christ to pay the price of death for those sins or you will have to pay it yourself.
