Hello to everyone. My name is Pamela. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes almost 10 yrs ago. I went into a state of denial for many years. Then I got a little wise and decided that I needed to take care of myself. That lasted for a year or two...and then I went into denial again. My yo-yoing hasn't been kind to my system.

I am currently taking oral meds and NOT doing well diet wise. I can do the low carb eating for a day or two but then I breakdown and eat something unwise. I have found that so many foods effect my sugar.

I am desperate to find a healthy way of eating that I can stick with. I am truely tired of this back and forth. I want to really do it this time. I am just so weak willed when it comes to carbs.

PS...thanks for a wonderful forum and website. It will take me weeks to read everything.

Welcome to Bellaonline Diabetes.
I think you are putting way too much pressure on yourself. You have to change your diet slowly as not to feel guilty if you cheat. Also do you know a little bit of exercise goes a long way? If you eat a forbidden food take a 10 minute walk and you'll be surprised how quicky your blood sugar will go down.

Remember if you lose wieght your body becomes a more efficient machine and we all can't be perfect.

I suggest you take it one meal and one day at a time. Believe me I've been there and done that.

Right now I'm in menopasual hell and have to make sure I exercise and find other ways to release my hormones so I don't eat everything in sight. I now have PMS 24/7 and it sucks!

So email me anytime and post to the fourum when you have a chance. As a side note for breakfast I have a very high fiber cereal, like all bran or other, just read the labels for the highest fiber, a 1/2 cup soy milk(because it has less carbs) and a banana. This will hold me until I have my mid morning snack of low fat/low carb yogurt.

Hope this helps.

Wow, thank you Cindy. That makes a lot of sense and it does give me encouragement. I have a doctors appt on Friday. I usually get yelled at for my numbers.:-(

I am going to try the exercise suggestion. For some reason my blood sugar is very high in the mornings. I have tried adjusting my evening meal but so far nothing has worked.

It doesn't help that my insurance barely cover any of my oral meds...sometimes its a struggle each month to buy my meds. My parents help...but I feel that its not their problem.

But like you said I will take it one day at a time. I will post back on Friday with my doctors report.

Pamela, here's a wake up call. I lost a college friend at the age of 30, my first husband at the age of 33, and a high school classmate at the age of 35. A friends daughter at the age of 20, all due to diabetes. Take care of yourself. You are fortunate, you have type 2 which is generally managed quite easily. Your meds should be a priority in your budget, not fun, but in the long run you'll be glad you did. Cindy has great advice. Check the net for great recipes, then purchase only what you need. If it's not there, you won't eat it. Good Luck!

I had my followup doctors appointment this morning. I got my results for all the blood work. My A1C was 10...I know...thats not good but better than I had feared. There seems to be at this time no damage to my kidneys or liver. My cholestrol is backwards the good too high and the bad too low. After taking my sugars twice a day for the past 2 weeks, I discovered that my morning sugars are in the 200's and the evening sugars are where they need to be in the mid to low 100's. So we are upping my dose of metformin in the evenings. We will see what that does. I go back to her in 3 weeks for more blood work.

In the mean time, she wants to see me drop more weight, she wants more exercise, and my sugars better. So I will be scouring my cookbooks for something I can eat.

Thank you ladies for the information and inspriation.

Pamela

well I just got back my lastest a1c. 6.9!! Yeah! I've done it with seriously changing my diet and exercise. I highly recommend bringin tennis shoes to your work and take a break walking.
You'll be amazed what 15 minutes twice a day will do you!
remember don't guess, test.
