I would like to give a report of our trip to New Jersey. We live in Maine and had planned a trip to NJ for a week stay. I wondered if bringing Bert was a good idea, but really had no choice in the end. I did not want him to get angry with us and wonder where we were.
An eight hour drive seems like a long haul for a big parrot. Well, Bert did have a great time. I'm sure he was tired during the road trip but I do feel him being with us at all times for the trip was where he would have rather been than with a stranger.
I think I would have done one thing different. If Bert could have maybe gotten used to a blanket hanging in his cage like a hammock(but narrow enough for his body) for him to rest in during the bumpy roads this would have been perfect. But over all I think everything was pretty good.
He even got to meet my sister-in-laws african grey Glory.

WoW! Bert is such a handsome boy! I hope you can get my pic of Sammy up for me, Connie!

Rac...my parents used to take Sammy all the way from Ohio down to the tip of Florida every Fall where they would "winter" with him until the late Spring...they did this for about 8 years and I think he kinda got used to going...he used to get real nervous as they were packing as if to say "don't you forget about ME!"! Well, good luck with your Bert...he's a cutie! Lydia

Hi Lydia,

Email me your picture at cmounsey@ptsi.net and I can post it on here too! We used to have a hanhs macaw that loved to travel except she would get car sick so you had to take her food and water away from her. She loved to go!

I'm really glad that you & Bert had a good travel experience. Most birds would really rather be travelling with their people than staying at home with a temporary caregiver.

And Bert is gorgeous. I see his picture is now up at the rate me page too.
