I have a question....

I understand that some people don't agree with or accept other people being gay. I understand that some people don't care either way. And I've heard of some people who are gay, who don't like straight people.... My question is,

Why is it any of our business what someone else's sexual preference is? So, some may not agree with it, but why do they let it bother them? Why can't they just keep their opinion to themselves? It's not like them voicing the fact that they think it's "wrong" is going to change anything. Everyone is different.

I think it is mostly just people wanting their opinion to be right and over-ruling. Also, some people are raised a certain way so their ideals are, in a way, "wired" deep into their lives and something that contradicts their ideals is scary and incorrect. People are afraid of things they do not understand.

Yeah, that makes sense. And I totally understand people wanting their opinion to be right, and being raised with certain ideals and what not, and I get voicing your opinions when asked, or in conversation, but when people just out right tell others that being gay is bad and all that stuff, it's really none of their business, or anyone elses.

Your ideals and beliefs are meant for yourself in your own life, not to tell others how to live their lives.

Just the way I look at it.

I have yet to hear of a lesbian turning straight because someone yells "Dyke" lol so their insults do nothing but create hate and tension.

I actually have some friends who are in a relationship together (females) and we went on a ski trip recently, and on the way up there some guys drove past them and yelled "DYKES!!".... they just laughed and said, "yeah, what's your point?!"

My girlfriend and I had that happen at the county fair one year, in a crowd of people. We had the same response to the young man who said it. He did not quite know what to do after that but did resort to name calling. We just laughed at him. It changed nothing in our lives or our day.

We had the same thing happen over this past 4 days at the conference I just returned from (1.5 hours ago). People would call us fags, faggots, homos, dykes, etc, and we would just reply.. and your point?

I was walking down the road arm-in-arm with a gay male friend of mine. A pick-up truck slammed on their brakes, rolled down their window... and we were ready for a verbal assault. Surprisingly the person said "Hey, were from here. We know you two are in the conference (we all were wearing the lanyards, etc). Can we get a picture of you. My friends don't believe their are interacial (white and mexican) gay couples."

We about died laughing. And when we explained why we were laughing, they about died laughing. Of course, traffic didn't like the fact they stopped! LOL

This weekend was a blast. I learned so many things, and one of them is that not everyone is going to agree with our "lifestyle". Many people are going to say derogatory things. Only you can change what happens by deciding what you will and will not let slide off of you. Just like a mirror, we would never become polished and beautiful without a few buffs here and there. Meaning that our beauty as gay people (self awareness, etc) can never be truly honed and defined without a few ruff patches here an there.

This was a wonderful response. This applies to all areas of one's life.
