I had this book quite a few years ago and lost it. I can't remember the name of it or the author but I can recall the main female character's name and the main story line. The female's name was Cassie (Cassandra) and she poses as the main male character's neice so as not to be separated from her deceased friends babies. The man is disgusted with himself for desiring his niece so when he finds out the truth he forces her into sexual encounters then forces her to marry him so to stay with the children. Meanwhile her female companion wants him for herself and plots the distruction of their relationship and then Cassie's life. The setting, I believe, takes place in Virginia in the colonial times.
