AN INCOVENIENT TRUTH is an excellent film. It is very convincing and one everyone should see.

I believe it will win The Academy Award for Best Documentary Film.

The National Acadamy of Sciences has contradicted much of the "information" in AIT.

Okay. I have had it up to my eyeballs with this "debate" over the "information" in the movie. Most of the people griping about it have never bothered to see it, much less attended a lecture by any of the esteemed scientists involved in this important research. Most of them don't realize that the "scientists" contradicting it are paid to do so by the energy industry.

I have had the privilege of seeing Dr. Thompson, the researcher at Ohio State who provided much of the data in the movie, speak on this topic several times. All you have to do is see his photos of Kilamanjaro to see that our planet has problems. And here's my beef. Does it really matter how much of it is natural and how much is caused by us? Do cancer patients care more about what caused their cancer or about treating/curing it? Why are people arguing about it when they should be doing something to fix it? You say it's not related to consumption? Prove it. Let's reduce our use of fossil fuels, and if things don't improve, where's the harm? Personally, I think a "Caring Parent" would be more concerned with the planet you are leaving to your children.

If you have specific evidence from several sources that contradict the statements made in the movie then present them.

Besides looking at photographs of Mount Kilamanjaro, look at how Greenland is losing its glacial ice. Look at how portions of Antartica have collapsed and broken off due to increased melting. Polar Bears are drowning because the distance between ice flows is too far for them to swim. As a result Polar Bears been recently added to the endangered species.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) www.noaa.gov "The combined global land and ocean surface temperature was the highest for any January on record."www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2007/s2798.htm

Ah, the logical fallacies of ad hominum attacks and personal appeal. If you don't agree you must be alligned with BIG OIL. If you don't agree you must not care about the planet or our children.

You also make the assumption that people who do not agree with AIT haven't seen it nor have they done their research.

Then provide us with the specific scientific reseach that you claim contradicts "An Inconvenient Truth". Please name the reports from the National Acadamy of Sciences which contradict the mounting evidence on global warming. Show me the evidence!

The National Academy of Sciences does Not contradict the film. It does have some reservations about the extent to which one of the graphs used in the film is interpeted.

As one critique of the film says "Science correspondent Harris agrees that the movie is effective, particularly in conveying the complexity of the issue. "It really does take an hour and a half to start to really understand global warming," Harris says.
He says Gore -- and the film -- get the "big picture" on climate change right. On some of the finer points, though, Harris says there is still scientific debate. And that sometimes isn't reflected as clearly in An Inconvenient Truth."

Al Gore spent 1/2 million dollars campaigning for his Oscar, but when asked to donate to stop the slaughter in Darfur he said, "No." Priorities?

Whose house is described here?

Quote:
Geothermal heat pumps located in a central closet circulate water through pipes buried 300 feet deep in the ground where the temperature is a constant 67 degrees; the water heats the house in the winter and cools it in the summer. Systems such as the one in this "eco-friendly" dwelling use about 25% of the electricity that traditional heating and cooling systems utilize.

A 25,000-gallon underground cistern collects rainwater gathered from roof runs; wastewater from sinks, toilets and showers goes into underground purifying tanks and is also funneled into the cistern. The water from the cistern is used to irrigate the landscaping surrounding the four-bedroom home. Plants and flowers native to the high prairie area blend the structure into the surrounding ecosystem.
