What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear or read "Spain"?
Is it sunshine? Bulfights? Flamenco? Beaches? Food? Wine?

Hello Babak,

Yes music and dance, especially flamenco? Or just that the Spanish love loud music and fiestas. Spain has some of Europe best and cleanest beaches and the weather to go with it!

Some of the modern singers and groups are Spanish but their music is not very good, that's the opinion of my teenage boys too.

I flew over Spain earlier this week and yet again was amazed by the size and diversity of the landscape that you see over the Spanish mainland. Snow capped peaks, through vast flat interior, wooded valleys... and this is before reaching the coast!!

Hi Kate and all,

Yes Spain to us Brits is vast but when I look at a map and see the size of the U.S - WOW - HUGE.

Spain is incredibly diverse from Green Spain in the north to the deserts of Almeria in the south-east. In Granada province you can ski in the Sierra Nevada in the morning and sunbathe on the Costa Tropical in the afternoon - incredible.

Inland the scenery is stunning and I'm looking forward to driving through France and the north of Spain in a couple of weeks. I love the Rioja area, especially in the grape harvest season when it'a alive with activity then into October when the leaves start to change - glorious.

The drive from Santander too is stunning, rocky peaks with eagles and vultures flying overhead.

I lived in Southern Spain for 2 years and loved it. I remember the sunflowers growing in vast fields, all with their heads turning toward the sun. The sun and beaches are terrific and the people are very nice.

I really liked the food too and was glad to see the idea of tapas come to the US.

Hello Butterball, I never knew that. So what is the first official language? Do you have the amazing variety of religious festivals too?

If most poeple have Spanish blood then there must have been a large Spanish influx? Please enlighten my ignorance into your history.
