Hi Readers...
In honor of Valentine's Day...what are your thoughts about office romance?

"Yes", or "No"? Is it worth it to date a co-worker?

Thanks, and Happy Valentine's Day to you all!
Kristy

I would do it, even though it could end up being kind of awkward if/when you break up.

I read an article on this topic recently...sorry can't remember which magazine at the moment. Anyway, the author made a great point when she suggested thinking about how you typically deal with a break-up. Her point was that if you are the type that drives by his house 10 times a week after a break-up, then you definitely want to avoid dating someone at work.

If you were to deal with a break-up at work like that, your co-workers might end up thinking of you as "the crazy chick in accounting", rather than recognizing you for your good work.

Ok--here's a question--if you are dating a co-worker, at what point do you make it "public"? I've recently learned of a lady who's dating a co-worker, and she has a picture of the two of them up at her desk. They've only been dating a few weeks, so it seems kind of soon/risky to me, but I've always been the cautious type!! I suppose the company policy on dating plays a big part, too.

Tips/suggestions/comments?

I would never date a co-worker. I have had several friends who have done so and it has not turned out good in any cases. It usually ends with them being bitter enemies and one or both of them leaving the company or getting fired. I used to work for a great boss who told his employess: "It is not good to fish off the company dock."
