I noticed that in this forum all the posts were related to starting your own nursing agency and I thought we should have a post for all nurses out here to come and share some of challenges we face everyday as a nurse.

I am a registered nurse and some of the challenges I face in my job at the hospital is constantly having to work short staffed due to the nursing shortage. I feel that by working short staffed we are putting our licenses on the line for there is more room for error or decreased nursing care that I feel every patient is entitled too. Also another challenge I personally face is working with people who are just there to draw a paycheck and have no passion or compassion for the job or the patients they take care of. And those are just a couple. I could definitely go on.

What are your thoughts?

My challenges as a nurse that I face in my job is to work with non-team player, egocentric staff. Short staffing and missing team work...definitely a bad combination and definitely hazardous to ones health.

Other challenges: poor communication, poor leadership, inconsistencies in the interpretation of directives or guidelines, and non-adherance to standards.

I am not a nurse, but wanted to thank you all for the times I had to be in a hospital. Now there were some nurses that made me feel welcome and some who made me feel I needed to hurry up and go home smile On the serious side, I could not do what you guys do. Thank you!!!
