A simple treatment such as dermabrasion or chemical peeling can cause lot of pain for about a week. When we discuss about surgeries, the pain and complications are mani fold. Even then people undergo these procedures. Why?

Mostly, if it's voluntary and non-medical, I would say - Vanity.

It might be worth it. You do have to make a conscious decision though...oftentimes the pain aspect of cosmetic surgery or other procedures is glossed over, big time. And the cost. These are expensive procedures.

In the U.S. now, there is a big push for cosmetic surgery. We even have a tv show about two plastic surgeons, "Nip/Tuck." On the one hand, these procedures can improve life for some people. They show accident victims, people with birth defects, and so forth. On the other hand, they can make the procedures look "casual"...as if you could change how you look so quickly and easily.

We have a capitalistic economy...as an American, I'm used to tuning out "you have to buy this" or "you need that." It can boil down to putting someone else's kids through college instead of your own. So it seldom crosses my mind to get "a little work done." They can sell it to me all they want, doesn't mean I have to buy it.

That's the thing...until recently, cosmetic surgery was a "rich person's thing." You didn't hear about ordinary people getting it.

Now...our baby boom is getting old. And they have disposable income. They're not rich in the old-style, socialite sense, but they are a new market to be courted, or exploited, depending on your perspective.

I visit other boards (not on this site) and can admit I was a bit shocked to see people casually chatting about getting a breast lift "because of breastfeeding." As if, if you breastfed, you should automatically get a breast lift. And they talk just as casually about tummy tucks, liposuction, face lifts of various kinds, Botox... I suppose I'm too old to buy into it..."old" in the sense of not wanting to change, or not wanting to have to change, or just plain being cynical.

They may talk casually, but are they casual after meeting the surgeon?

I am readily for a little pain after much deliberation. Can anyone tell me how to contact a beautician who does permanent makeup in Wuxi, Suzhou or Shanghai in China. I am an Australian English teacher currently in Wuxi and cannot seem to find anyone here.

I have tried without any success and there is nothing on the internet to assist me. I am currently trying to locate some sort of information service who may have a list of businesses like a Chinese form of a Chamber of Commerce. Thanks anyway.
