It's me again. Bert has done this very same dance each and every time he see's my daughter Britney. It's very weird, he gets very excited and says "Hi Bert", in a high tone of voice. Then starts jerking forward as though he is about to vomit and food actually comes up sometimes. He only does this when Britney is present and it is every time. Does anyone know what he is doing? Thanks Kim Rac

Hey Kim, Bert is showing his love for your daughter by regurgitating. In the bird world that is like the biggest complement a bird can give! Miss P does that for me sometimes.

Hi Kim,
This is normal behaviour, many birds do this. They are telling you how much they love you, and they are trying to feed you.
I have not heard of a bird doing it in a negative manor, maybe Bert loves been a little flirty when your daughter is around.
I know people will put there bird down if they start this behaviour, not to incourage it. They usually will stop it you ignore it.
But no fears it is nothing abnornormal.
Mavis I am sure will add.
Take Care

Thank you so much. I had no idea what he was trying to do. This makes much sense. We have found that as soon as Britney is present I am dog meat When I'm alone with Bert all day long I can now carry him around the house and scratch his head, and do so much more now with Bert, but as soon as Britney is standing beside me if we're right by his cage he sometimes darts at me as if to bite and will walk towards her. But doesn't ask at all like this during the day. Britney will tell Bert "No bite mama" - in a stern voice, but I'm not sure if he can actually understand what do you think? I kinda think he is a BIT on the jealous side, is this normal and how should I react to this. Thanks a bunch, Kim R.

Well - - - its springtime! lovers You've already got the answers as to what he is doing and because it is a mating behaviour, it is completely normal and it will pass.

Have Britney continue to tell him "NO" when he tries bites you. Otherwise - just be careful when he is in this kind of mood. Tell Britney to be careful too, as birds sometimes bite their 'mate' if someone else gets too close.

Hi Britney.
Most birds are not afraid of dogs - unless the dog is paying too much attention to them. My dogs are always checking around the cage for food that has been thrown out & the birds will sometimes throw something out just to watch.

Kim, Lucky you! My Amazon is over-bonded to me and will only tolerate my daughter for a minute, then he lunges at her! (We are working on that though as she will surely inherit him someday!)
However, our little male cockateil, Spikey, is absolutely in love with her! As soon as he catches a glimpse of her, his wings go out, his eyes brighten, he begins saying "pretty bird" and the dance begins! Sometimes when she holds him he goes into a sort of daze and also has regurgitated on occassion--yuk! It is cute to watch him try to get her attention and defanately love at first sight!!LOL!
