Hi Mavis,
Barb had phoned us a few weeks back and asked if we were interested. Thought about it for awhile, phoned Pat who had Joey, and went to see him. This was her husband's bird, he died 3yrs ago, she was fond of him but birds were not her thing. He had all his basic needs met, but she didn't have the time to spend with him, and felt it better to find him a good home. This was his second home and she was the only one to handle him. He was such a gentle bird with her, so that was hopeful. What made my final decision was that if she couldn't find a home for him, she had thought of putting him to sleep. I think maybe this bird also has some sad memories of the husbands death.
I didn't want to see a lovely bird put down.
So here is another challenge.
This is his second week here.
We were all talking to him and he would put his head down to be scratched, I was just taking things really slow, not fast enough for him obviously.
4 days after he arrived he was jumping at me to pick him up. I put his stand into the living room, and after one time of being on it he gets down from his cage and walks into the living room to find his stand.
He has adapted much faster than I was told he would, he is a very sweet bird. I really don't know what to expect from an older bird, he seems such a gentleman compared to my bratty Maggie. lol
It's just getting him used to our kind of fast paced lifestyle, and noise all day . Can you teach an old bird new tricks, they tell me you can.
Take Care
Dawn
