There's a new plan on in Ireland to end homelessness that is sponsored jointly by the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Simon Community, Focus Ireland, and Threshhold.
Nobody should sleep rough, nobody should live in an emergency accommodation for longer than is an emergency, and nobody should become homeless because of a lack of appropriate services...this is the mission of the movement and the work could serve as an example worldwide.

Surely there will always be homeless people? For many people, homelessness can be prevented. Nobody who is in an institution, be it hospital, prison, or care, should be discharged without decent housing to go to. Equally, families and individuals who are at risk of homelessness because of health or family difficulties, rent arrears, anti-social behavior, or illegal eviction by their landlords, can often be assisted before the situation becomes a crisis.
