You will need a lot more than one to get chains. When you enter a quickening, all three of your characters will show up in the lower right corner. It will give you 1 of 4 different options for each person: Lv. 1, Lv. 2, Lv. 3, or Mist Charge. If you only have Lv. 1 unlocked, you will be unable to use 2 or 3 so it will make chains harder. Once everyone has all three unlocked, you will be able to use all of their quickenings after starting it with any of the others.
For example: You have three characters (I'll say Vaan, Ashe, and Fran) with all three unlocked and they have full MP. You start the quickening with Vaan's Lv. 1. Now Vaan has 2 remaining and Ashe and Fran have 3. Each will get a random move, and at this point the only one that would not work would be Vaan Lv. 3. Anyone who has at least one charge missing can get Mist Charge, which will fill all of their missing charges back up. If you see Mist Charge you will want to use it every time. Also, if you use one you know that that character will be able to immediately be able to use any move, so keep mashing that button to select what ever comes up.
Once you have more unlocked ask again if you want strategy tips. For now just go unlock them. (They will also multiply your MP by the number unlocked. They worth going out of your way for them if it doesn't take an absurd amount of LP)

Hey thanks tidus. Just another quick question? Can all characters unlock the same quickening. I thought it said only one character can learn this.

I got the chaining down, I just didn't have enough quickenings. Can all the characters learn 3 of them or is there a limited supply of them. I also wanted to know what you think about this. I have been using vaan, balthier, and basch as my physical attack team and was planing on using the other 3 for magic skills.

There are a total of 18 Quickenings on the license board, so you will be able to unlock three for all 6 characters.
You should definitely experiment and set up your party however you like it the best. Three Physical members and Three Magic users should work just fine for you.
I have two set of three that I pretty much keep together. I do not use much black magic, and tend to set it up specifically for battles I need it for. My two sets both operate the same way: Two Melee attackers, and one dedicated healer. The Melee characters have healing gambits set for lower life totals than the healer, so they will keep hacking away unless things get out of hand. The healer is set to mainly use the area spells (cura/curaja) so every one stays healthy.
It appears you already have things headed in the right direction, but keep in mind that (in general) males are better fighters, and females are better mages. If you are trying to heal with a fighter who does not have equipment boosting magic power, you will quickly find that their spells are not very effective. This became a problem when I got further along, which caused me to create a dedicated healer. (If you give the healer a ranged weapon, they can still get some pot shots in when everyone is healthy without putting themselves in danger.)

hey tidus, I like the sound of that. Having all of the quickenings will be great. Have you beaten the game already? And what do you think of the new battle system? This is my second ffx game I started out on ten. I like this one alot better if I am heading some where I don't have to hear breaking glass every other step if I am in a hurry to get some where. Do love the games though. Do you check this site often? None of my friends get into these kinds of games so I really don't have anyone to talk to about them.

I have not actually beaten the game yet, but I could at any time. I am at the last step in the plot, and if I go on there will be no more save points. Right now I am grinding my levels up to 99 and then I have to finish out the hunts and rare game, as well as 3 more Espers.
I really like the new battle system, and tend to change my gambits on the fly quite often. It is nice not to have random battles when you are in a hurry, but in previous games you can usually find a piece of equipment that will eliminate them. Also, I tend to over level, so the random encounters don't bother me much.
I'm not sure where I would rank this among the other FFs, but it would most likely be first or second. The system is much nicer than the others, but the plot seemed scattered at times. It's not something that bothered me much, but I just like when the plot is very centered around the main character.
FFX is also one of my favorites, mostly because of the sphere grid. I have played through it 3 times, and I have taken the time to rework the grid and completely max out my stats. (I have beaten FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FFX-2, and FF(one). I have played but not finished FFVII and FFXII)
Looks like that was more info than you asked for, but I tend to ramble. I check the forums about once a day, and try to answer any FF questions that I can.

I am on the ryng worm hunt and I have thrown every thing in my arsenol at him and he still is beating me severly. I know he starts of with protect, and I don't know if he has regen. I might also not be ready for this hunt yet? I am just getting ready to head to the gariff village on the ozmone plains for the first time.

The Ring Wyrm is tough. He is only a Lv III mark, but I think he should be classified higher. At 128k HP, he has a lot more than the hunts you have been doing. I was not able to beat him the first time I made the attempt.
Make sure your gambits can get rid of disable and immobilize quickly, and it wouldn't hurt to equip an accessory or two to block it. He is weak to fire, so hit him with oil (maybe, I can't remember if it works) and throw fire spells at him. Summoning Belias is a good way to get some damage in while keeping your party out of harms way. Keep the summoner back and toss high potions at him to keep him alive to do his final attack. If you have all three quickenings unlocked you could summon him three times in a row. I think he can use renew on himself which can be really annoying. You might try syphoning his mana to prevent this, but I dont know if it will work.
