Pam, my teil does that sometimes too although he is a male! He rests his tail up against the side of the cage and hisses at me if I disturb him--I'm thinking its just a silly thing they do or maybe it feels good to them--sorry to be so blunt--hehe!! If your bird does continue to spend alot of time on bottom of cage or shows any signs of weakness or change in appitite, however, I would call the vet! Lydia*

I'm so sorry Pam. The one day I didn't get a chance to check for messages here & you have an emergency. Hopefully by now your bird has passed the egg, but if she hasn't - PLEASE get her to an avian vet ASAP.

Let me know what happened please.

It is the strangest thing.. she never passed an egg, I know I felt one I think I felt one... anyways put her back in her cage the next afternoon and she was fine. No two different times she has done the same thing. She still does not want to be messed with and gets really mad if I try to go in it. Here is a question her cage is right next to my other tiels cage, could she be doing this for him. I am not sure that he is a he but when i took him to the vet she said that he was 95% sure he was a he and she was a she. Does anyone have any suggestions. Pretty Baby is almost 2 and Cherokee wont be 1 till May. Does any one know how much it costs to have the blood test to sex them? I am intrested in possibly breeding them but it would help to know 100% that I have a male and a female. I would also like to post pictures of them but can not figire out how to do it in here.
Thnaks
Pam

Hi Pam! So happy to hear your birdie is ok!! I have never had a bird professionally sexed so can offer no advice. I have noticed that in tiels the males are usually the most vibrant and dominating and the females are mostly dingy and subserviant. A good website I found on teils is:

Thanks for getting back to us to let us know that she is ok Pam. I wouldn't think that she is doing anything on purpose because of the other tiel - so something was wrong. We just don't know what.

Many cockatiels can be sexed visually, although pieds are not easy. Pictures have to be put up somewhere else on the internet & then you put in a link to the picture by using the image button just below the text box when you post.

You could also describe the colour of both your birds and maybe we can tell you what sex they are.

Couldn't she be "posturing" to the male? I have a female eastern rosella parakeet who is in love with my male cockatiel  and she continually puts her backside to him and raises it as high as possible making silly noises as she carries on. He ignores her completely or sends her packing by snapping at her feet.

You might be right Lizzy. I just went back & read the first post & those little chirping sounds does make it look like she was inviting him over.
