Dear Mavis,

I hope you can help me asnwer some questions that I have in regards to canaries.
I currently keep my birds outside but I realized that it's too cold now so I'm thinking to move the birds into a garage. Now what type of light or lightball I should use? and also where can I buy the light with the timer to increase the lenght of time.

Thanks
Jackywu

The best lights to get for your bird would be full spectrum lights in fluorescent light tubes. The time can be regulated by the use of various types of timers. You should be able to purchase both the lights and the timer at a department or hardward store.

If your birds are presently in the cold, please be careful moving them to a warmer place. You don't want to make sudden climate changes.

yes, they are currently outdoor in the low 40 so I guess it's pretty cold! The reason that I'm moving them is because one of the canary die this morning without any reason so I'm guessing it must be too cold...
Any suggestion on a best way of moving them to a warmer place?

Thank you
Jacky

Because your birds have been outside, they slowly became used to the dropping temperatures and a sudden change to warmer temperatures may do more harm than good. You can move them to a new location, but try to make sure that the temperature is fairly close to what they are used to and then you can gradually increase it until you get it up to where it will be more comfortable for them. You mentioned that you want to move them into a garage, so you shouldn't have a problem keeping a door or window open for a few days - then close it - then start to add heat. Good luck.
