A reign of terror has ended

A man, who has instilled fear across the world over for years, is dead. I never would have guessed that this day would come. Is the world safer now that Saddam is dead? I do not think so. There are as many people in the world that idolized Saddam as who feared him. Those that idolize him will sadly retaliate to honor his memory. Those who fear him will dance in the streets briefly tonight to celebrate the moment.

Saddam Hussein time of death 06:00 Iraqi time.

I am reminded of the amish peoples reactions when their children were killed.I think that is pure love, and I think that is one of the reasons we are here,to learn that.executions are not my bag.prison unto death would have been.

Hi Babak,

I do not know if too soon. What I meant to convey in my article was everything moved so quickly, and NOTHING would EVER move THAT quickly here in the US. We would NEVER execute someone in the middle of another trial. They would let them finish the trial first then execute them. As if there really is a point to them finishing another trial once they have been sentenced to death.

Then in the US we have an appeal system after appeal after appeal after appeal, that drags on for YEARS. Saddam was executed 56 days after his sentencing to death. 56 days!
Amazing!

I hope Iraq can begin to heal from the torture of the reign of terror it experienced from 1979 until 2003 under the Dictatorship of Saddam.

Thank you for sharing your views in the crime forum babak it is always nice to here from you. <img src="/images/graemlins/fish.gif" alt="" />

I wonder how much history/evidence of the relationship between the Bush family and Saddam's Iraq has now been erased. No one can now talk about Bush 1 winking and smiling at Saddam during the Iraq/Iran war when the US supplied Saddam with war materiel. And the list goes on and on.

Good article here.....

http://www.counterpunch.org/tariq12302006.html

Furthermore....This is especially important to remember:

"That Saddam was a tyrant is beyond dispute, but what is conveniently forgotten is that most of his crimes were committed when he was a staunch ally of those who now occupy the country. It was, as he admitted in one of his trial outbursts, the approval of Washington (and the poison gas supplied by West Germany) that gave him the confidence to douse Halabja with chemicals in the midst of the Iran-Iraq war."

The trial was rigged, and the appeal period cut short.
An evil tyrant he may have been, but nobody involved has the right to hold their heads up high and declare themselves blameless.
It's shocking that on the new threshold of the 21st Century, so-called civilized nations are still acting like barbarians.
I neither applaud nor condone this murder.

Saddam's execution will flare up the situation in Iraq. US has done injustice with Iraq. Why they do not go after Laden?
